JAMES, ROBERT (BOB) JOHN

Robert passed away on July 14, 2015, after a very long illness. He was born on October 25, 1943, in Buxted, England, and grew up in Raymond, Alberta. He moved to Edmonton in 1965 where he met Frances Heidinger. They were married in Medicine Hat on June 4, 1966. Robert graduated as a chartered accountant in 1972. With the exception of a two-year working vacation in Montreal, they lived in Edmonton.
His lifetime passions and accomplishments were varied. Flying was a lifelong love, and Bob was a member of the Air Cadets for six years in Raymond. He later obtained a private pilot’s license and took great pleasure in night flying and aerobatics. He was an avid motor sport, hockey and baseball fan. Bob loved reading, particularly history and science fiction. He loved cats, model building and muscle cars. Many of these interests served as subjects for a lifelong interest in taking and printing photographs. During the last ten years of his life, he found much peace and comfort in visiting the University of Alberta’s Devonian Gardens.
Bob spent twelve years as a volunteer “uncle” in the Uncles at Large program in Edmonton. He spent time working with the Edmonton Public School Board, Canadian Utilities Ltd. and the Government of Alberta in Alberta Transportation where he finished his career.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife (Fran) of 49 years; mother Ethel; brother David (Roslyn); one niece and one nephew and their families; brother-in-law Lloyd (Linda) Heidinger, and sisters-in-law Shirley (Gerald) Mayer and Marion (Jim) Drake. Psalm 103, verses 15 and 16:
As for man, his days are as grass;
as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.
For the wind passeth over it and it is gone;
and the place thereof shall know it no more.
Bob and Fran are eternally grateful to the multitudes of health care providers since this journey began in 1969, including the Dr. Gerald Zetter Care Centre since 2013.
Very special thanks g

JOHN (JACK) ROCKCLIFFE ORR

Born December 27, 1930 to Jack and Nellie Orr, second oldest of six children. Medicine Hat Alberta.
Jack attended Suffield Public School and then high school at St Theresa's Academy in Medicine Hat. His first job was in High School driving a gravel truck for his uncle Norm Nowicki. Upon completion of High School, Jack got a job with the Canadian Pacific Railway where he was employed for 42 years. During that period of time he met his wife Dorothy and they were married December 12, 1959 . Their only child Murray was born in 1960. Jack was first employed as an Assistant Agent, Cashier, Telegraph operator, and finally as a mobile Supervisor for the last 25 years. Jack retired from the railway in 1992. He was an avid curler, golfer, and fastball player. For numerous years he took a rink to the CPR bonspiel in either Golden or Revelstoke. As Jack was born during the great depression, hunting was a way of life for many families to supplement their diets and put food on the table. Because of this he learned how to use a firearm responsibly and enjoyed many years of hunting deer, antelope, moose, bear, pheasants, and partridge. Early on he took up the sport of trapshooting, traveling to shoots all over Canada and the United States. His skill collected him many trophies and plaques over the years. Jack spent many years working with Brooks Fish and Game Club which worked to educate people on safe handling of firearms and proper hunting practices. He spent many years volunteering at the Brooks Trap Club and later The Brooks Clay and Feathers Club, where he fired the Ceremonial First Shot during the opening ceremonies on May 7, 2005. After retirement, Jack experienced many medical issues resulting in two new knee's and a hip replacement. On January 26, 2008 Jack had a subdural hemorrhage which required hospitalization rehabilitation and reassessment. As a result, Jack needed to live in Long Term Care for the rest of his years. Throughout this experience he retained his sense of humor and personality. Dorothy and Jack moved to Hanna in September 2011 to be closer to son Murray and his family.
Jack passed peacefully at 12:30 am on July 13, with his family by his side.

PANSY LLOYD KNIGHTS FISHER

August 29, l922 – July 1, 2015

The second of eight children born to Cyril and Nella Lloyd, Pansy, though born in Wales, grew up in Calgary. In l941 she married John Kingsley Knights, a Pathfinder Navigator, who was shot down over Germany in l945. Later she met and married his cousin, Frederick Henry Fisher and they lived and raised their family in Medicine Hat, where Fred was a high school teacher and administrator.
Pansy devoted herself always to others, her family, friends and those less fortunate. She made her home a happy, welcoming refuge filled with the aroma of baking and good food. There was not a selfish bone in her body and she led by example. She stands at the top of the Hero list for many people whose lives she touched. She and Fred traveled the world, visiting many places inaccessible now in six of the seven continents, and she gathered memories and friends along the way.
Her family and their activities became her life, especially during the last five years when she was fortunate to live in Victoria. A woman of deep faith, she told us daily how blessed she was, but it was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who were really the lucky ones.
She is survived by her sisters, Joan Williams (Bob), and Diane Powell of Calgary, her children, Nella (Bill Berry) and Donald (Sheryl), grandchildren: Koryne (Taylor Smith), Derek Berry (JoAnne) Ambre, Karis, Huxley and Chloe Fisher, six great grandchildren: Emily, Jordyn and Jessie Berry, Lindsey, Liam and Nathan Smith, and many nieces and nephews.
Her service will be August 22 at St. Margaret's, Eagle Butte.
