LORNE LOUIS SCHLAHT
Lorne Louis Schlaht passed away on May 30, 2015 in Kindersley, SK from Parkinson’s disease. His earthly existence began on December 5, 1936 in Medicine Hat, AB. He grew up on a farm south of Burstall, SK and went to a school east of their farm. At the age of 12, he moved with his parents to the community Of Bindloss where his dad had purchased a farm and that was to be his home for the next several years. Lorne’s life changed dramatically when he met a young lady from Leader, SK by the name of Linda Mertin and married her on June 30, 1960. In 1962, they made the move to Estuary, SK and this is where they established their home. To this union were born 3 children; Quinten Schlaht (whom passed away sadly in 1979 from a rare form of cancer), Rocky Schlaht and Wanda (Chris Molish & their 2 sons: Brandon & Brock). Lorne took great pride in his two grandsons and shared his wisdom with them.
Besides his children and grandchildren, Lorne leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Linda of almost 55 years, his brother Ivan (Louise & their children: Tara (Jeremy Good & their child Paisley Good), Telisha Schlaht and Tanya – (who sadly died in 2011), Tanya’s 3 children: Mihayla, Rowenna & Tavynn Schlaht. Predeceased by his parents Louis & Irene Schlaht, Linda’s parents Fred & Hertha Mertin, Brothers-in-law Fred Mertin & Harvey Mertin.
One of Lorne’s most favorite things that he did was to operate a ferry. He operated the Bindloss ferry until it closed in 1961 because of the new bridge that was built at Sandy Point which connected Hwy 41. Lorne continued his dream of the “Ferry Man” at Estuary for many more years. He enjoyed all the people and conversations that he had while transporting them across the river. Besides the ferry, his life included building a herd of cattle, farming the land, raising many exotic Bantam chickens and making memories with Linda and his children.
In his earlier years, Lorne loved to curl. He was also President of the Chesterfield Britches Roping Club. The “Jive” was his favorite dance and Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley were the top 2 idols on his list. He loved family history and going to family reunions.
Two special friends that Lorne grew up with were Warren Chudleigh and Jim Wendt, who have since passed on many years ago and now he joins them in the Great Beyond to continue their friendship and perhaps do a little yodeling and playing the spoons.
Lorne’s one and only sibling is a younger brother named Ivan, who came along 16 years later. Lorne never let Ivan forget the age difference.
Lorne will always be remembered as a very vibrant, social man, opening up his home to neighbors and friends, making each one of them feel welcome. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
A Funeral Service was held on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Leader, SK with Lynne Resch officiating. In memory of Lorne donations can be made to the Parkinson Society Saskatchewan or to the charity of your choice.

LYLE ALEMAN
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and
lean not on your own understanding.” Prov. 3:5.
With a heavy heart but not without hope we announce the sudden passing of Lyle Aleman at the age of 44 on June 4, 2015. He is survived by his loving wife Carisa Aleman (Bekkering) and his five precious daughters Jenna, Kelsy, Megan, Halle and Eryn. He was loved by many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins and special friends.
Lyle was born Feb. 24, 1971 in Lacombe, Alberta. The family moved to Medicine Hat in 1977. He graduated from Crescent Heights High School in 1988. He went on to study at The University of Lethbridge and earned his Bachelor of Commerce in 1993. His family was involved in the greenhouse business and he was blessed to work at RedHat Co-op as General Manager. His integrity and passion shone through in his daily work.
He married his best friend Carisa on May 15, 1999. They were truly blessed with five wonderful and treasured girls. He loved each of them dearly and encouraged them to use their individual talents to serve others and the Lord. He loved spending time with them playing badminton, shooting hoops, teaching them to fix sprinkler heads, building projects, playing games, reading stories, driving side-by-sides or just snuggling together watching a movie. We will miss his smile and laughter and hugs.
He showed his servant-heart by serving multiple terms on church council of the Medicine Hat Christian Reformed Church and as an executive board member of the Medicine Hat Christian School.
