1934 ~ FORBES ~ 2015

Thelma Viola Forbes of Medicine Hat, passed away on Sunday, May 3rd, 2015 at the age of 80 years. Thelma leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Timothy "Tim" (Susan) Forbes of Medicine Hat and Steven (Tracy) Forbes of Redcliff; four grandchildren, Tim Forbes Jr. (Kristi Smith) and their son, Xandr, Brianna Forbes, Grant Forbes and Cassandra Forbes; two brothers-in-law, Alex Forbes and Vern (Pat) Forbes; nieces and nephews, Rick (Lori) Gallant, Blake Gallant, Vickie (Derrick) Schmidt and Kevin Gallant; and dear friend, Myrna Bisson. Thelma was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Florence Higman; one brother, Harold Switzer; one sister, Doreen Gallant; and one sister-in-law, Mary Ann Forbes. Thelma was born on August 11th, 1934 in Virden, Manitoba. She was the instrumental in development of senior’s access to independent living during her working career in Virden. Thelma loved to spend time with her family and grandchildren and retired to Medicine Hat to be closer to them. She was an avid church member, loved quilting and playing cards. Thelma also enjoyed volunteering for various organizations including the Medicine Hat Food Bank for several years. She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends. CLARA LARAE LAUGHLIN

(nee Haslam)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Clara "LaRae" Laughlin on Saturday May 2, 2015 in Cardston AB at the age of 75 years. LaRae was predeceased by her parents Virginia and Evan Haslam, her husband James H. Laughlin and her son Kevin L. Laughlin. She is survived by her children Jim L. Laughlin (Merilyn), Randy Laughlin (Rosemary) and Sharlene Laughlin (Chad Kearns).
She also leaves to mourn her loss the following grand children; Bryan Laughlin (Jessica), Stacey Fox (Tyler) Sonia Laughlin (Jeremy Fisher), Evan Laughlin, Chelsea Grisbrook, and Troy (Stephanie) Grisbrook. The following great grandchildren; Ashton, William and Celia Laughlin, Jeremy Fox, and Calli Grisbrook, a brother Monte Haslam, 2 sisters Rita Thompson and Duraine (Willie) Krczizanowski as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
LaRae was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved her ward. She was always excited about going to her institute class and loved serving in the temple.
The Funeral service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Cardston Alberta West Stake Center (Waterton Hi-way) on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. Friends may meet the family from 12:00-12:45 p.m. prior to the service. Interment to follow in the Hillside Cemetery, Medicine Hat on Saturday, May 9th at 11:00 a.m.

Florence Kathleen Fischer passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2015, at the age of 85 years, beloved wife of Otto Fischer of Medicine Hat. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Bev (Keith) Keeler of Medicine Hat and Lynn (Robert) Chamberlain of Edmonton; two grandchildren, Shauna (Greg) Murray and Andrew Chamberlain; two great grandchildren, Ashlee and Cody Murray. She was predeceased by her parents, Andrew and Katherine Seitz and two brothers in infancy. Florence always had a love of gardening and was well known for her peppers and tomatoes and the beautiful flowers that she grew in her greenhouse. She was also an avid seamstress. Her main love was the caring for her family. A private family time of remembrance will be held. JESKE

George Karl Jeske passed away on Monday, May 4, 2015, at the age of 85 years, beloved husband of Ann Jeske of Medicine Hat. He also leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Bonnie Sederberg; four grandchildren, Jerri and Blaine (Owen, Easton and Jax); Tammy and Russ; Staci and Greg (Addison and Hayden); Kayla and Alan; four sisters-in-law Marjorie Jeske, Frieda Jeske, Esther (Leonard) Klaudt and Gloria Mock. He was predeceased by his parents, Lydia and Emanuel Jeske; four brothers, Emil, Harvey, Howard and John; four sisters, Ida, Frieda, Alice and Barbara; one brother-in-law, Harvey Mock. George was born on August 2, 1929 in the Medicine Hat district. He attended country schools and after receiving his education he began working at Medalta Potteries. On April 11, 1953 he married Ann Mock in Medicine Hat. George worked as a bus driver on the Irvine to Elkwater route before starting at the Medicine Hat News where he worked until his retirement. He always kept busy with his sports, watching and coaching, and playing banjo in several different bands in Medicine Hat. He was also an avid gardener. On April 11 George and Ann celebrated 62 wonderful years together. He will be missed greatly. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant, David Townsend. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. MARGARET DIANA FREEMAN

January 2, 1916 ~ May 1, 2015

Margaret Freeman (nee Greaves) passed away on Friday, May 1, 2015, at the age of 99 years. She leaves to mourn her passing nine children: Dennis (Joan) of Edmonton, AB., Barry (Mara) of Olds, AB., Ron (June) of Medicine Hat, Judith (Bruce) Yemen of Ottawa, ON., Glenn (Sandy) of Edmonton, AB., Randy (Pat) of Yellowknife, NWT., Linda (Don) Anderson of Stettler, AB., Greg (Deborah) of Chilliwack, BC. and Deborah (Dale) Bolton of Medicine Hat. She will also be fondly remembered by her 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren as well as her brother, Ray Greaves of Brooks, AB., her sister, Betty Robertson of Brighton, ON. and her good friend and care giver, Jane Cole of Medicine Hat. Marg was predeceased by her husband, Eldor in 1993 and her brother, Eric Greaves in 2003. Marg lived in her own home until the age of 97, the last 17 of those years living with her daughter, Deborah and her grandson, Josh Crawford. She was born on January 2, 1916, the eldest of 4 children to Herbert (Medicine Hat's first postman) and Lily Greaves and lived her entire life in Medicine Hat. Marg married Eldor Freeman on July 13, 1940. Together they enjoyed gardening, camping and raising their nine children. She was a member of the Medicine Hat Public Library all her life and for many years she made her weekly trip via the bus for a shopping bag of books. She was an avid reader with an amazing imagination. As a member of the library and CNIB, she was able to continue enjoying books and magazines after her vision failed. Marg was also a long time member of the Ladies Auxillary of the United Transportation Union. She was a member of the Medicine Hat Horticultural Society and spent many hours working and creating a beautiful garden and yard with Eldor which she continued to enjoy well into her 90’s. Her daughter Deborah continues the tradition. The family would like to thank Riverview Care Centre for the excellent, loving care Mom received over the last two years. A family gathering to celebrate Margaret’s life will be held at a later date. October 21, 1975 – May 1, 2015

Our Dear Daughter, Sister, Friend to many, Missionary for Christ, Singer, Student, passed away peacefully in her home. Survived by her Mom, Jackie, and Al Piper, her sister Lisa Paul. Micheal and Makayli. Her dad, Garry Johnson and Carol, and extended families. Sheryl was a bright light wherever she went. A celebration of Sheryl's life will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the First Assembly Church on 395 9 St SE, Medicine Hat, AB, Canada.
