Alan was predeceased by both parents and brother, Gregory Thomas. He will be dearly missed and always remembered by his loving wife, Ruth; son, Douglas (Lana); grandchildren, Zackary and Abyrana; nieces, Cindy (Mike) Marcotte, Sheri (Mike) Molag, Stephanie (Stu) Beacon, Stacey (Joe) Parsons, Sheyleen (Leon) Pfeiffer, Shannon (Jeff) Borschawa; nephews, Sheldon (Alisia) Mumby, David (Shannon) Burch; special cousins, Etta (Bob) Morgan, Gordon (Anna) Walker and Iain (Joan) Turner; sisters-in-law, Erna (Wilf) Hall, Frances Cotton, Sylvia and Linda Goertzen; brothers-in-law, Pete Hiebert, Louie Wudrich, and many other extended family and friends.
Early in his life, Alan was enthralled with airplanes. Very patriotic and a proud Canadian, no one stood taller than he did when he enrolled in the Royal Canadian Air Force in December 1956. He proudly served every minute for 37+ years, retiring in 1994.
His love for airplanes and the RCAF was only surpassed by his deep love for all our family members. He treasured each and every one so much. Also very proud of his Scottish heritage, Alan revelled in every opportunity to uphold traditions.
During retirement he enjoyed RVing and being a ‘snowbird’ for several years. As well, he loved living in Meadowlark Village, enjoyed all the people and so many good friends, socializing and helping with events and activities at the clubhouse.
A Memorial Service and reception in Alan’s memory will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel & Reception Center, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat next week Saturday, May 9, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alan’s memory may be made to the charity of choice or the Rainbow Society of Alberta, 6604 – 82 Avenue, Edmonton AB T6B 0E7.
