BOSCH

Gertrude “Gertie” Bosch of Medicine Hat passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at the age of 93 years, beloved wife of the late Anthony Bosch. She is lovingly remembered by her children Theresa (Clarence) Lacey, Kathleen (Harley) Phillips, Raymond (Trish), Mildred (Art) Mercer, Linda Stuart, Stephen, Gerard (Carolyn) and Mary Ann. She will also be greatly missed by her 25 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren; three brothers, John (Veronica), Tony, and Joe (Ruth); and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Gertie was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years Anthony (Tony) Bosch; one son, Kenneth; a grandson, Mark Phillips; a son-in-law Stephen Stuart; her parents Philip and Catherine Bosch; a sister Rose (Nick) Schafer; brothers Frank (Lena, Rita); Raphael; and three brothers and a sister who died in infancy. After marrying Tony they moved to Oyen where her nine children were born. Raising them with love, affection and a lot of effort while supporting Tony, first on the farm and then at Bosch Motors, was a challenge she cheerfully undertook. In 1967, they moved to Medicine Hat. As the children grew and left home Gertie now had time to get more involved in Parish and Community activity. Her boundless energy and zest for life led to several satisfying accomplishments. She was President of the CWL, sang in the church choir, counted the Sunday Collections and volunteered for many Parish events. She sang and led singalongs for the residents at Sunnyside Lodge. She was active in the “Germans from Russia Historical Society” and served a term as President. She loved bowling and won many events including Interprovincial tournaments. She took up line dancing and at one point was teaching the residents at the Condo where she lived. Her special delight was in caring for her children and grandchildren. She loved games of all types and taught them many different card games and board games. She savoured those moments but was very competitive and did not give them any breaks as she told them nothing in life comes easy and you have to earn your rewards. Gertie lost her sight in December, 2000 within a month of Tony’s passing. That was an emotional and challenging time but she quickly adapted. Her indomitable spirit and strong faith were instrumental in meeting that challenge. She listened to the Mass on TV every day and said three rosaries a day, one for Tony, one for Kenneth, and one for whomever she felt needed God’s help the most. She became a fan of the audio books supplied by the CNIB and faithfully “watched” her beloved Blue Jays ball games on the TV. She enjoyed listening to tapes of Tony playing the polkas, waltzes and fox-trots that he played when they were courting and all through their years together. The family would like to thank the staff at Riverview for the compassion and loving care they provided her. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Monday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 1:30 to 2:25 p.m. Family and friends will gather for prayers in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated in Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Rd.
