HARVEY VERPY
March 4, 1937 ~ January 3, 2015
“Until We Meet Again”
Harvey Roy Verpy passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the age of 77 years. Harvey was born and raised in the Loomis / Eastend area of Saskatchewan. He married Dorothy Grace Wilkinson in 1955, living in Eastend until their move to Medicine Hat in 1968. Harvey is survived by his five children; son, Alan (Kathy) Verpy and their sons, Cory and Ryan, and Alan’s daughters, Bobbi and Brandi; son, Dean (Shari) Verpy and their children, J.J. (Bill) and Jeremy; daughter, Brenda Verpy and her children, Gary and Jared; son, Brett Verpy (Rose Caskey) and their children, Josh, Cameron and Austin and daughter, Shari Hansen (Jason Cotten) and her children, Jason, Kolton and Tatriana. He is also survived by his sisters; Joan Stuber and Zelda (Albert) Glassford; brothers-in-law, Floyd Hansen and Jack (Janet) Wilkinson and good friend, Irene Schwab; including ten great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Harvey was predeceased by his beloved wife, Dorothy Grace Verpy in 1975; parents, Henry and Laura Verpy; brothers, Clifford Verpy and Dwayne Verpy; sister, Pat (Floyd) Hansen; granddaughter in infancy, Brittany; brothers-in-law, Fred Stuber and Ted Wilkinson; sister-in-law, Diane Cursons and mother-in-law, Irene Sinclair. Dad worked most of his life as a carpenter, building many of the homes in Medicine Hat in the early 1970’s, then went to work at CFB Suffield in their carpentry shop. He moved through the ranks until he was promoted to carpentry foreman and held that position until his retirement in 1997. He was very proud of his work and very devoted to the Catholic Church he helped build in Eastend, Saskatchewan. We rarely drove by that building without him mentioning that ‘he had helped to build that’. Dad loved many sports including baseball, hockey, bowling and golf. Harvey enjoyed baseball in the local leagues for many years, playing and refereed hockey games in his younger days as well as after retirement and started golfing and bowling on a more regular basis. He was involved in many bowling leagues and relished in the competition and the companionship of his teammates of whom he spoke of with great fondness. Harvey also loved to sing and play guitar. Our earliest memories of dad all include him strolling around the house singing and playing that guitar for hours. Following his retirement, Harvey also sang with the St. Patrick’s Church choir which he loved and took immense pride in. He was loved and will be missed by many. The funeral service honouring Harvey’s life will be celebrated at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 1:00 p.m., with Reverend Father John Maes, officiating.
