.BECK
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we, the family of Orval Harvey Beck, announce his passing on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at the age of 71 years. Orval was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta on March 21, 1943. Our Orvie was a wonderful devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather and he was blessed when he became a Great Grandfather on January 24, 2015. He is survived by the love of his life, DORIS (MUHLBEIER), his two daughters, RENEE (JEFFREY) DOWLING and RANDEEN (LLOYD) BRAY. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, DEREK (Jessica) DOWLING, BRYAN DOWLING and TYSON and CARTER BRAY. Also left to mourn his loss, is his great granddaugher, BROOKLYN DOWLING, his three brothers GORDON (Darlene) BECK, GERALD ( Marilyn) BECK, DELMAR BECK and DORIS’ siblings JOANNE MUTSCHLER and LAVERNE MUHLBEIER. All of his nieces and nephews were very important to him and he was always so happy to spend time with them. Orval has now joined his little sister, VIOLA VERA in heaven (1947), along with his mother ELSIE BECK (1989), his father EDMUND BECK (2005), his Mother-in-law EDNA MUHLBEIER (2009) and his Father-in-law RAYMOND MUHLBEIER (1981).
Orval was a kind and caring person who was always more concerned about his family than himself. He loved every moment that he spent with his girls and their families whether it be camping, fishing or just for a visit.
The arrival of his four grandsons was the highlight of his life and he felt so very blessed that they lived near enough that he could watch them excel in school and in all the sporting events that they participated in.
Orval received his education at Golden Prairie and later became an Inter-Provincial heavy duty mechanic and a crane operator. He was very proud to be a 30 year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 955. Orval retired after working for Jacobs Catalytic at the Canadian Fertilizer Plant for 23 years. It was there that he developed many friendships.
His love of music and fishing was evident throughout his life. Many weekends were spent at his favourite fishing spot which was in the Grassy Lake area. He enjoyed the peacefulness, drifting along on the lake in his boat.Orval was a wonderful example and inspiration of what a husband, father, grandfather and friend should be. A quote from Orval’s Auntie Toots (Delores) message of love was “There are some who bring a light so great to the world, that even after they have gone, the light remains.” Today we can feel his presence giving us strength to carry on. Orval found it so easy to show his love with a daily “I Love You”,a hug or a special handshake, a trait he carried with him throughout his lifetime. Orval is now playing his guitar with the BIG BAND IN THE SKY.
Our family has been so very blessed throughout this difficult journey to have the support and love from our families, extended families and a host of many life long friends. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for your daily support! Many thanks are also extended to Doctor Mohanraj, Doctor Foley and the medical team at the St. Joseph Carmel Hospice Centre for guiding us through this devastating time.
Those who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 12:30 – 1:25 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. with Diaconal Minister Lila deWaal officiating. .COFFEY
The family of Clayton George Coffey announces his recent passing after a short battle with Lymphoma. Clay leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Kaye, their children Erin (Steven Penzes), Kathleen (Michael Selleck), and Matthew (Lisa) Coffey; his grandchildren, Siobhan (Matthew Jubelius), Molly and Clayton Penzes, Maura and Emma Selleck, Alexandra, Mairead and Cian Coffey. Clay was born on October 26, 1937 in Dalhousie, New Brunswick but soon moved to Kapuskasing, Ontario. He lived the storied life of a young man growing up in a mill town in Northern Ontario. Many were the stories of outdoor adventures, hockey, and friends. His longest lasting story started when he met the love of his life at the tender age of 11 (she was 9). Kaye and Clay were inseparable from the day they met, were married in 1960, and continued to be committed to each other to this day. Not long after graduating from Ryerson Polytechnic School, Clay embarked on a lifelong career of military R&D including time at Defence Research in Valcartier, Quebec, Space Research Corporation, and Advanced Dynamics. It wasn’t long before the west called him and he packed up his family and moved to Defence Research in Suffield in 1968. The family spent the first few years enjoying Ralston before moving to Medicine Hat in 1973. Clay quickly demonstrated his skills as a systems designer and was an integral contributor to the System’s Section’s programs until he retired in the ‘90’s. Even after retiring, Clay kept his love of designing and building by taking up woodworking with a passion, producing heirloom quality furniture for all members of his family. Clay was a devoted family man and loved to spend time with any and all of his grandchildren. There are many memories of ski lessons, driving lessons and the proper use of a chainsaw that will be retold many times. Nonetheless, everyone has many fond memories of the things taught to them by Clay. His enthusiasm in all things and his devotion to family and friends will be dearly missed by all of us. The funeral service will be held in St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church (238 2nd Ave N.E.) on Friday, February 20, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. with Deacon Terry Olson officiating. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
