.1920 ~ BALAZSI ~ 2015
Alex Balazsi passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital at the age of 94 1/2 years. Alex, the second youngest of five children, settled in Rabbit Lake, Saskatchewan in 1929 with his family when they emigrated from Hungary. As a teenager, he worked as a farm labourer before enlisting in the Canadian Army serving proudly until his discharge in 1945. Re-entering civilian life, he worked in the coal mines of Drumheller and the hard rock mines of Uranium City. He also worked in Australia and in New Zealand on the Mana Puri Hydro Electric project. Upon returning to Canada via tramp steamer, Alex worked as a cat skinner grading in the gravel pits for the road paving crews throughout central Saskatchewan. He then worked in a veteran’s nursing home in Saskatoon until retirement. Alex married his beloved wife, Louise Balazsi in 1967 and they began a long love affair of travel overseas and on the road. Their trusty motor home would take them to southern Nevada in the winters, down the Oregon coast, up the Alaska highway, and all the way to Vancouver Island. Alex is survived by his three children, Paul James Jantzen of Surry, BC, Paulette (Blake) McCarthy of Nanaimo, BC, Robin (Richard) Smith of Edmonton, and their mother, Nellie Jaroch of Summerland, BC; his step children, Bernice (Per) Sakstad of Medicine Hat, Alvin (Lil) Stange of Claresholm, Pat (Bill) Zajac of Calgary; 11 grandchildren; 15 great- grandchildren; and 3 great-great- grandchildren; his sister, Mary Kundar of Claresholm; his sister-in-law, Hermina Balazsi of Rabbit Lake; as well as many nieces and nephews. Alex was predeceased by the love of his life, Louise Balazsi; one stepdaughter, Yvonne and her husband, Jaye Bowlen; two brothers, Joseph and John; and three sisters, Elizabeth, Helen and Julia. A Celebration of Alex’s Life will be held at CHINOOK VILLAGE, 2801 – 13th Avenue SE, on Saturday, January 17th, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with Chaplain Lance Duncalfe and former Chaplain George Brandt, co-officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Claresholm. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Alex’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Sarah Manz of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Louie Manz, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, January 12th, 2015 at the age of 92 years. Sarah leaves to cherish her memory two sons: Barry (Phyllis) of Richmound, Saskatchewan and Ron Manz (Pam Wilson) of Oyama, British Columbia; four grandchildren, Rick (Shauna) Manz and his children, Brandon, Shylo and Trinity Manz; Cory (Laurie) Manz and their children, Mckayla and Ryley Manz, Jessica (Samuel) Ross and their children, Blake and Carson; and Jeff (Kassandra) Manz; one sister, Kathleen Pallett; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Sarah was predeceased by her husband, Louie; and her parents, John and Mary Macdonald. Mom (Grandma) touched the lives of many with her kindness and smile. She had a green thumb and was proud of her flowers and vegetables. When she moved to Medicine Hat she enjoyed planting flowers at the Cypress View. Mom enjoyed knitting and was happy to donate many slippers and blankets to those less fortunate. Her past times includedwatching her sports “Go Roughriders”, playing bingo and cards, and doing crossword puzzles. Mom enjoyed spending time with her family and was always eager to help out in any way. She is now joined with her one true love, ourDad (Grandpa). A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Jack Fraser Bullin passed away at his home on Sunday, January 11, 2015, at the age of 91 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife June. He also leaves to cherish his memory his son Stewart (Therese) Bullin of Medicine Hat; five grandchildren, Christopher Bullin (Meg Huntington), Mike (Natalie) Bullin, Brent Twast, Darrin Twast, Mark Twast (Brianna Courage); two great grandchildren, Mason and Emerson; two sisters, his twin Margaret Wiebe and Agnes Jabausch; a sister-in-law Polly Bullin and June’s family: Barb (Rob) Stadnick, David (Joyce) Bodie and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, Anna and Frank Bullin; his first wife Rose on December 5, 1985; one daughter Paulette (Terry) Twast; his brothers, Pete (Helen), Frank (Gladys) and John Bullin; two sisters, Helen (Harry) Wall and Ann Piquette; two brothers-in-law Frank Wiebe and Ferdinand Jabausch. Jack was born on March 20, 1923 in Aberdeen, Saskatchewan where he was raised on the family farm. He later moved to Saskatoon where he worked at various jobs such as a butcher for Safeway, a mechanic for CP Rail working on locomotives, a finishing carpenter and operating his own grocery store and gas station. He and his son Stewart moved to Fernie, B.C. in 1973 where they began their construction company “Bullin’s Construction”. In 1988, Jack and his son moved to Medicine Hat and continued with their construction company until Jack passed away. Jack enjoyed hunting, horses, dogs and playing with his grandchildren. He enjoyed going back to Saskatchewan to visit his family on the farm. The highlight of his travelling days was with his wife June on a Safari to Africa, a balloon ride over the Serengeti and a chance to see unique wildlife. Jack was a proud man and instilled many of his values in his grandchildren. It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of our beloved Father and Grandfather. Ken passed away January, 10, 2015 in Fort McMurray Alberta at the age of 57 years. Left to cherish his memory are his loving daughter Trina, his son Brent (Andrea), his grandsons, Effram, Seth, & Ryan, who brought him so much joy. Also left to cherish his memory is his former spouse and best friend of 40 years Deb, as well as many family members and friends. Ken will be truly missed. RICHARD LORAN, beloved husband of Sharon Herman Loran, of Barnwell, passed away suddenly at home on Tuesday, January 13th, 2015 at the age of 66 years.
He is the loving father of Roxane (Dart) Wooden of Edmonton, AB. and Devry (Megan) Loran of Medicine Hat, AB. and the caring grandfather of Brady, Sydney & Colby Wooden and Owen Loran.
He is survived by his mother Margaret Loran, siblings Bill (Carol-Leah) Loran, Elinor (Fred) Regner, Bev (Ray) Francis, Leonard (Lori) Loran, Terry (Terry) Sawchuk, Pat (Gord Brayton) Loran, Kathy (Les) Meyer, as well as brother-in-laws Bob (Vi) Herman and their children, Sheri-Lynn (Derek) Taylor and their kids Ethan & Asia, Mandy Herman (Ricky) Morin, Alison Herman, brother-in-law Brian (Devi) Herman and their daughter Brianne (Adam) Clark and their child Micah, in addition to his numerous nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by Adam Loran (father), Stuart Westall (brother-in-law), Paula Francis (niece), as well as Irene Herman (mother-in-law).
Richard (Rick) was born in Leader, Saskatchewan and went to school in Brock and Rosetown, Saskatchewan. He moved to Calgary at 17 years of age and got his mechanics ticket at S.A.I.T. He worked in Calgary then Lethbridge at Chinook 66 Service Station, and then he and Sharon opened Chinook Auto Service. They retired to Barnwell in June 2013.
Rick won many awards in baseball, curling, and his passion, golf.
He was a loving family man who cherished caring for others. He always had a positive attitude and was a man of peace.
He will be hugely missed by all.
A Prayer Service will be held at ST. BASIL’S CATHOLIC CHURCH – 604-13th Street North, Lethbridge, AB, on Friday, January 16th, 2015 at 7:00 P.M. with Maureen Condon Horon officiating.

Peter John Ressler passed away on January 14, 2015 at the age of 90 years. He leaves to cherish his memory two sons; Dennis (Bonnie) Ressler of Kelowna, BC; and Cyril (Audrey) Ressler of Medicine Hat; five grandchildren, Dean (Amanda) Ressler, Lethbridge; Kristin (Warren) Senft, Calgary; Dustin (Jenna) Ressler, Bermuda; Kaitlin Ressler (Chris), Medicine Hat; Clayton Ressler (Jessica), Okotoks; eight great grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Miller, Veronica Getz, Theresa Mardian all of Medicine Hat and many nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth (Betty) Ressler, parents Mike and Elizabeth Ressler; brothers Valentine, Jack, Nick and George; sisters Agnes Lerner, Katherine Duchscherer, Angelina Eresman and Florence Faichuk. Peter was born on the home farm near Fox Valley on February 22, 1924, and spent his childhood there. He married Elizabeth (Betty) Schmaltz on September 23, 1946 in the Johnsburg Church, Fox Valley. They lived and worked in Taber for a year before moving to Medicine Hat in 1950. Peter worked for the City of Medicine Hat as a heavy equipment operator for 33 years, retiring in 1985. Peter was an avid bowler, bowling for more than 30 years in various leagues, and winning awards. He loved to fish – both summer and winter. Peter loved his family and always had a story to share. Peter’s smile and bright blue eyes will be forever missed. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 3:30 p.m. with Life Celebrant, David Townsend.
