.1919 ~ ANDERSON ~ 2015
Joan Anderson of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Gordon “Red” Anderson, passed away on Saturday, January 3rd, 2015 at the age of 95 years. Joan leaves to cherish her memory her son, Graham Anderson; Shirley Margerete Ewan (Langlands) of Calgary who owned the Piapot Hotel for many years; Malcolm Blake, Jessie and Les’ son of Vancouver; Peter and Katie Langlands; Heather and Stan Fisher, Lee-Ann and Twyla. Joan was predeceased by her good friends, Geo and Marie Oliphant. Joan was born on March 1st, 1919 in Scotland. At the age of one, she and her family immigrated to Canada and settled at Golden Prairie, Saskatchewan. As a child the family then moved to Medicine Hat where she attended school, graduating from Alexandra High School. Joan met and married Red on April 6th, 1946 and they continued to make Medicine Hat their home. She worked at “The Darling Dress Shop” until 1970 when Joan opened her own store called “Joan’s Dress Shop” retiring in 1980. She was a dedicated member of The Westminster United Church for many years as well as the Eastern Star. Joan enjoyed the company of family and friends and will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her. Barbara Lowther of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Edward Lowther, passed away on Tuesday, December 30th, 2014 at the age of 82 years. Barbara leaves to cherish her memory her children, Alfred (Jean) Lowther, Brian (Iona) Goldie, Randy (Debra) Goldie, Brett (Anne) Goldie, Adrianne Lowther, and Maureen (George) Wrzyszcz; ten grandchildren; numerous great- grandchildren; one brother, Ken Chugg; two sisters, Irene Cull and Lynne Lamb; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Everrett and Florence Chugg; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Gordon Chugg. Barbara will be remembered for her devotion to her service clubs, The Royal Purple and The Eagles. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of their mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, sister, auntie and dear friend, Doreen Evelyn Stuber. Doreen is survived by one son, Shelden (Tammy) Stuber and their daughters, Desirae and Serena; one sister, Elsie (Marcel) Lambert and their families. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Candee (Steve) Dennett, Shantele (Troy) Smith, Ginger (Mitch) Ziegler and Robert Hoff; five great-grandchildren; two step-daughters, Sandie Rieger and Debbie Hoff; as well as many lifelong friends and extended family. Doreen was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Christina Nittle; her grandson, Myron Stuber; her sisters, Betty Bohnet and Annie Nittle; and one son-in-law, Dennis Rieger. She is also predeceased by her lifelong friend and companion, Elden Stuber. .JOHN (JONAS) FOMRADAS

1940 ~ 2015

Mr. John (Jonas) Fomradas, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Diane Fomradas, passed away peacefully at the St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice on Monday, January 5, 2015, at the age of 74 years. John was born on March 31, 1940 in Kausnas, Lithuania. As a young boy, he immigrated to Canada where the family first settled in Shaugnessy, Alberta before moving to Lethbridge. This not only became his home, it was the place where he would marry his wife, Diane Morrison and raise a family of their own. In his younger days, John enjoyed playing soccer and broomball and met many people involved in these sports who became good friends over the years. For over twenty years, John was a dedicated employee with Canadian Dressed Meats before he retired and opened a new chapter in his life. At this time, he purchased a farm near Purple Springs and quickly adapted to the humble country life. He loved the farm life of horses and other animals and could often be found at the track watching horse races. In 2010, John and Diane moved to Medicine Hat where he had resided until the time of his passing. Left to cherish John’s memory are his children: Shannon (Guido) Cattoni of DeWinton, AB., Blaine (Ann Marie) Fomradas of Medicine Hat and Jody (Dave) Nelson of Calgary, AB.; grandchildren, Holden and Taite Cattoni, Nikolaus and Dallon Fomradas and Hunter and McKinley Nelson as well as his mother-in-law, Jessie Morrison. He is also survived by four brothers, one sister and their families. He was predeceased by his wife, Diane in 2013; one brother and two sisters. A Celebration of John’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Friday, January 9, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Father John Maes officiating. Violet Weiss of Medicine Hat passed away on Monday, January 5, 2015, at the age of 86 years, beloved wife of the late Raymond Weiss. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Joyce Weiss of Medicine Hat; one daughter-in-law, Judy (Bryan) Magyar; four grandchildren, Stacey Vammen (Gord), Stephanie (Les) Wold, Kevin (Margareta) Jesse and Lori Jesse (Tom); five great grandchildren, Evan Vammen, Lucas and Brendan Wold, Mathew and Kaitlyn Jesse; one sister, Caroline Schneider; a brother-in-law, Edwin Deering (Virginia Hildenbrand) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Magdalena Bender; her husband, Raymond Weiss on March 8, 2006; her son, Victor Weiss on November 18, 1978; four brothers, Philip, Jack, Fred and John Bender and six sisters, Helen Frank, Martha Opp, Katie Thompson, Elizabeth Hughes, Christine Krassman and Maggie Deering. Mom was born and raised in the Hilda district; married to Raymond Weiss April 9, 1947, and together they farmed and kept very busy, but always took time off on Sunday; special occasions; getting together with friends and family. They moved to Medicine Hat in 1967, and still worked, Dad in construction and Mom took a Hairdressing course, then started doing hair for an income. Mom and Dad always worked together with harvesting, remodelling and with whatever there was to do. She kept busy also with crocheting, sewing, knitting and enjoyed music. She was active with the Hilda Bethlehem Lutheran Church Ladies Aid group. Mom enjoyed being together with the family and taking the grandchildren fishing and camping. They also gave us a helping hand on the acreage with building and helping out whenever possible. I miss Mom as I am sure she will be missed by many others. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the church on Saturday from 12 noon to 12:55 p.m. The funeral service will be held in St. Peter Lutheran Church (758 8th Street SE) on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev.
