Elsie Krauss of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Edward Krauss, passed away on Thursday, December 25th, 2014 at the age of 99 years. Pearl May Ruff of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully to her new home with her family by her side, after 6 years at South Country Village, on Monday, December 22nd, 2014 at the age of 82 years. Pearl leaves to cherish her memory her son, Garry Ruff (Donna); daughter, Gail Millen (Harvey); five grandchildren, Jennifer Lembke (Mike), Jerod Ruff (Kate), Sarah Dowler (Corey), Candace Millen and Katherine Millen-Worre (Phillip); five great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Roxanne Schimpf. Pearl was predeceased by her parents, George and Amalia Schimpf; two brothers, Vern and Archie. Pearl was born in Leader, Saskatchewan on April 2nd, 1932. She moved to Medicine Hat in 1947 with her parents, as a young girl to start a family business and lived here in Medicine Hat until her passing. Ellsworth “Earl” Scoville, beloved husband of Celanie Scoville of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 28th, 2014 at the age of 71 years after a short but courageous battle with cancer. At the time of his passing, Earl was surrounded by his loving wife, his youngest son, Matthew, and dear friends. Earl also leaves to cherish his memory his four children, Mark (Christine), Matthew, Tamara Scoville (Alex McIntyre), and Salwa (Paul) Williams; eleven grandchildren, Benjamin, Emily, Kane, Lily, Christopher (Jen Livingston), Tehya, Brynn, Andrew, Teagan, Quincy, and Amira; one great-granddaughter, Aubrey; one brother, Stewart (Gail); two sisters, Mary Ann (Randy) Lewis and Jane (Bob) Milner; one sister-in-law, Mary Scoville; Celanie’s sisters, Terry (Marlyn) Morrell and Mary Beth (Stephen) Thomas; and brother, Thomas John (Diane) Stephen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Earl was predeceased by his parents, Ellsworth and Annetta; and brothers, William, Jackson, and Rodger. Earl was best known in the community as an honest, hardworking realtor. Carol Laura Tuchscherer, beloved wife of Charlie Tuchscherer of Medicine Hat, passed away on Friday, December 26th, 2014 at the age of 69 years. Carol also leaves to cherish her memory her children, Douglas Tuchscherer, Paul (Kim) Tuchscherer, Karen Tuchscherer (Kerry Delahey) and Sheryl (Mike) Haaf; eight grandchildren, Brooke Tuchscherer, Brandon Tuchscherer, RJ Tuchscherer (Jazmine), Chase Smithson (Brooklyn), Dustin (Sheena) Haaf, Ashley Haaf, Derek Haaf and Dalton Haaf; one great grandson, Tyrell; one sister, Kathleen Madsen; three brothers-in-law, Roy (Merle) Tuchscherer, Garnet (Brenda) Tuchscherer and Harvey (Lori) Tuchscherer; two sisters-in-law, Vivian Tuchscherer and Adela Tuchscherer; good friends, Sharlene Trudel, Vivian Anheller and Cheryl Westman; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Carol was born on February 18th, 1945 in Cabri, Saskatchewan. She married Charlie on November 12th, 1963, celebrating 51 years of marriage. Carol worked for the school board in the housekeeping department. She enjoyed Bingo and spending time with her grandchildren; who were the loves of her life. Carol will be missed by all those who knew her. It is with sad hearts that the family of George Friedt announce his death on December 25, 2014 at the age of 85 years, beloved husband of the late Julia Friedt. He is survived by his only sister Rosemary Lerner, five children, Randy (Brenda), Dan (Joanne), Kent (Cheryl), Marina (Barry) and Colette, as well as sixteen grandchildren, Sheldon, Kevin, Christopher, Cari, Alison, Breanne, Aleise, Jenna, Wyatt, Dylan, Melissa, Krysta, Kyle, Kelsie, Orry and Tye and nine great grandchildren. George was born on June 4, 1929 and raised in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan. He married Julia Matz in 1953, and together they farmed and raised their family until 1974 when they moved to Medicine Hat. He took on the work of maintenance at the Medicine Hat Coop until his retirement in 1992. George will be remembered by many as the ‘candy man’ who gave the greatest hugs at church. He was an honest steady man, calm and filled with a deep faith in God. He exercised that faith by attending daily mass. In the last years of his life, he was a regular with his ‘coffee buddies’. He was also known as “Mr. Fix It” It was said: “If George couldn’t fix it, then throw it out.” It was the motto at the Coop. He has been a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 60 years and was a 3rd Degree Knight. He loved music, photography, stamp collecting, fishing and gopher shooting. He has taken thousands of pictures and many hours of video over the years, mostly of his children and grandchildren. Family and friends will gather for prayers in the PATTISON CHAPEL on December 30, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated in Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road SE) on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Mike Dechant, OMI celebrant. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. Those wishing to sing in the choir for the mass of resurrection are invited to be at the church at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday for a practice. Theodore “Ted” Herman went to be with his Lord on December 24, 2014 at the age of 96 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Helanda Herman; four sons, Dennis (Kathi), Tom, Jim (Renee) and Nolan (Tammy); three daughters, Bonnie Hartung, Dixie (Don) Vair and Lois (Randy) Beck; fourteen grandchildren, Ross, Ryan (Ariana), Todd (Val) & Kerri (Bill) Stait, Bradley (Janice), Kim (Tyler) Rae, Leanne, Greg Hartung (Lori), Maureen, Jamie, Jill, Cody Vair (Lacey), Lindsey (James) O’Donnell, Matthew Beck; thirteen Great Grandchildren; one brother, Rubin Herrmann; five sisters, Barbara Sonnenburg, Martha Anderst, Freda (Wally) Kanwischer, Caroline Zeitner, Helen Griscowsky; Helanda’s brother Ed (Beth) Lemke; her four nieces, Sharleen Dewar, Heather Thiessen, Cathy Chase, Michelle Barkman one nephew Darrell Lemke. Ted was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Carrie Herrmann; his first wife Irene, son Bernie, daughters-in-law Kathy and Antonia Herman; one brother Edwin and his wife Vera; four brothers-in-law. Ted served four years in World War II, (1941-1945), as Signalman for the Irish Fusiliers, then transferred to Calgary Highlanders where he served as Sergeant until his honorable discharge.
In his younger years he was very active in his church teaching Sunday School, Bible Study and serving on the Executive. He was also very passionate about giving back to his Community which involved becoming a Charter Member of the Drowning Ford Grazing Association, was instrumental in bringing electricity in the Cypress rural area and served as Secretary Treasurer for the Cypress Rural Electric Association. Ted as a young man felt very strongly that the Pioneers, who settled the area should be taken care of and was one of the founding Directors of the Cypress View Foundation in Medicine Hat and was honored by the Provincial Government in 2012 for this. He felt strongly about education, as he was not given the opportunity to complete his due to the need to help on the family farm. Ted wanted to ensure that his children received an education and donated the land to the Number Four School Division to build the Hermansite School. He was also an early member of the Medicine Hat Coop and the Walsh Auction Mart. When Ted and Helanda started winter vacationing on Vancouver Island, Ted started to write his memoirs, and after two years had it printed, naming it “There is a Tomorrow”!
