.1920 ~ EDWARDS ~ 2014
Dr. Jack Edwards of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of the late Margaret Edwards, passed away on Sunday, November 9th, 2014 at the age of 93 years. Jack leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Ronald “Ron” (Anne) Edwards and Kenneth “Ken” (Margriet) Edwards, both of Medicine Hat; his daughter, Lorraine (Kenneth “Ken”) Gassoff of Quesnell, BC; four grandchildren, Cody (Amie) Edwards, Kayla (Garrick) Powell, Curtis Gassoff, and Heather (Scott) Osadczuk; and six great- grandchildren. Besides his wife, Margaret, Jack was predeceased by his parents, Lewis and Ella Edwards. Jack was born on November 14th, 1920 in Grande Prairie. He graduated with a B.Sc. Degree in 1943, a M.D. Degree in 1946, and a M.Sc. Degree in 1953. Jack served in the Medical Corps of the Canadian Army from 1944 to 1945 and married Margaret Crawford Gainer on September 15th, 1945 in Edmonton. Jack began a general practice in Red Deer from 1946 to 1951 and then continued his education in Edmonton training in Internal Medicine. In 1955, Jack and Margaret settled in Medicine Hat where he practiced until retiring in 1988. Jack was an Alderman for the City of Medicine Hat from 1958 to 1968, was President of the Chamber of Commerce, President of the Medicine Hat & District Tourism Association, President of the Kiwanis Club, and member of the Kiwanis Band from 1955 to 1985. He was also President of the Alberta Medical Association and was on many committees with the Alberta Medical Association and the College of Physicians of Surgeons. Jack and Margaret enjoyed many winters in Arizona. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The Funeral Service will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Tuesday, November 18th, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Canon D. Gene Packwood officiating. A Private Interment will take place at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery. Robert Gordon Johnson, beloved husband of Loretta Johnson of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 12th, 2014 at the age of 79 years. Bob was born in Alsask, Saskatchewan on August 20th, 1935, the sixth of seven children born to Grant and Edith Johnson. He farmed in the Cuthbert area until retiring to Medicine Hat in 2006. Bob was an active member of the community being involved in the Lions Club, church, and school board as trustee and chairman for many years. He was also the Mayor of Alsask and was instrumental in the development of the Alsask Retirement Villa. Bob loved music, whether it was the barbershop quartet, the band “Tequila Sunrise”, or just playing for family. He loved singing and we all enjoyed his rich bass voice. Spending time with family and friends was very important to him and he especially loved his grandkids. Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lori; his daughter, Janice (Doyle) Duncan and their children, Josh (Monica), Maddie (Brennan) and Zach; and his daughter, Bobbie Jo (Wayne) Wulf and their children, Sydney and Gianna. He also leaves to cherish his memory two sisters, Joyce Nelson and Norma Muirhead; two brothers, Allan (Grace) and Wayne (Darlene); one brother-in-law, Andrew Nagel; as well as nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Grant and Edith; his brothers, Ivor and Earl (Elsie); his brothers-in-law, Murdock Nelson, Peter Muirhead, Harvey (Jenny) Nagel and Ken (Eleanor) Nagel; his father and mother-in-law, Paul and Lil Nagel; his nephew, Michael Johnson; and his nieces, Shirley Johnson and Krista Scheuerman. A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at the SAAMIS CREEKSIDE CENTRE, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Monday, November 17th, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. with Gary W. Goran officiating. It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Bruce Widdis, beloved husband of the late Elaina Widdis, at the St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Saturday, November 15, 2014. His memory will be forever cherished by his son, Don Widdis; daughters, Deb Widdis and Bonnie (Kirk) Ewasechko; six grandchildren: Jaubron and Broyce Widdis, Katarina, Kari, Krista and Kate Ewasechko; sisters, Doris (Gordon) Dunn and Marlene Barrie; mother-in-law, Hazel Boylan; in-laws, Janet Sharpe, Rodger (Marj) Boylan, Gwen (Ed) Hammel, Patti (Carl) Jaindl and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Iona; father-in-law, Roy Boylan; brother, Gordon and brother-in-law, Phil Barrie. Bruce was born and raised in the Sceptre area, where he also met and married his loving wife of 51 years. While raising a family, he farmed and worked for Boylan Electric until 1972 when they relocated to Burstall. He bought grain for Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and he and Elaina taught dance lessons in the surrounding area. In 1997, they moved to Medicine Hat in order to enjoy more time with their grandchildren. Working at the Lawn Shop fulfilled a need to “fix things” and became the hub of his social life, as well as his regular meetings with his “coffee buddies”. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. A special thank you to Dr. Tom Mohanraj and staff for their compassionate care and friendship. Laura Krause of Medicine Hat passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2014, at the age of 82 years, beloved wife of the late Oscar Krause. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Merle (Viona) Krause and Wesley Krause; her grandchildren, Amber (Phil) Stark and Brandon Krause; three brothers, Harold Anhorn, Harvey Anhorn and Gary (Verna) Anhorn; one sister, Marjorie Seitz; two sisters-in-law, Adeline Anhorn and Elsie Schlenker; one brother-in-law, Herb (Minnie) Krause as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Rosie Anhorn; her husband, Oscar Krause on May 21, 2013; two brothers, Richard and Vernon and a sister, Violet. Laura married Oscar in 1951, together they farmed at Hilda until moving to Medicine Hat in 1958. In 1967, they moved to Grand Prairie but again made Medicine Hat their home in 1971. Laura loved crafts, including making Valentine cards for senior’s homes and the hospital. She also loved animals, bunnies and horses being her favourite. Laura spent many hours baking and was known for always preparing 150 Kuchen at one time. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Monday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 12:30 to 1:25 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. with Life Celebrant, David Townsend.
