.1941 ~ SCHNEIDER ~ 2014
With heavy hearts the family of Bill Schneider announces his passing at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday, October 20th, 2014 at the age of 73 years. Bill will be deeply missed by his children, Brad (Angie), Alan (Roxanne), Denise (Steve) Sykes, and Jason (Andrea); his grandchildren, Jordan, Jeremy, Julia, Chantel, Tanner, Justin, Laura, Savanna, Jessica, and Katrina; his great-grandchildren, Amelia, Jae-don, Javen, Jayla, Aliza, and Bishop; his sister, Betty Helmer; and his brother, Dan; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends he leaves behind. Bill was predeceased by his mother, Elsie; his father, Emile; his brother-in-law, Bob; and his sister-in-law, Jolene. Bill was born and lived in Medicine Hat. Upholstery was his passion from 1981 to 2013. He also worked at the Redcliff Glass Factory from 1958 to 1976, and Deluxe Taxi from 1976 to 1981. Bill was very easy going and had a heart of gold. He enjoyed having a coffee and beers with his friends and family. Bill was a Hot Rodder to the end! Virginia Ann Battye of Medicine Hat, passed away on Saturday, October 18th, 2014 at the age of 70 years, beloved wife of the late Stuart Battye. Virginia is survived by two brothers, Walter (Francie) and Douglas Schnieder, both of Redcliff; along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Virginia was predeceased by her parents, Gust and Rebecca Schnieder of Brooks; two sisters; and three brothers. Virginia resided at South Country Village until her passing. By request, no funeral service will be held and cremation has taken place. It is with a heavy heart that Lynn Fretts announces the peaceful passing of her beloved husband and best friend, Don Fretts, which occurred at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary on Sunday, October 19, 2014, at the age of 58 years. Along with Lynn, left to cherish Don’s memory are his step-children, Heather (Lloyd)?Smith, Tracey (Colin) Eld and Clinton (Melissa) Bratton: seven grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Nicki) Fretts and their children, Bobby and Angela (fiancé Darrel); one sister, Linda (Dave) Beglaw and Linda’s children, Terri (Ryan) Tabor and Ryan (Teresa) Hansen; four sisters-in-law, Doreen (Delmer) Wagner, Shirley O’Brien, Joanne Minshull, Laura (Brian) Reynolds; one brother-in-law, Ken (Wendy) Martin as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Evelyn Fretts. Edna Halena Kanewischer (nee Bayer) passed away peacefully at the Good Samaritan Society, South Ridge Village, on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at the age of 90 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her children Lillian Betcker, Florence Oss, Terry (Alma) Kanewischer; her grandchildren; Candi, Dixie, Donnie, Wanda, James, Lana, Jason, and Dania; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one brother Oscar (Marg) Bayer; two sisters-in-law, Helen D. Bayer and Helen Bayer, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Eugena and Oscar Bayer, two brothers, Ed Bayer and Fred Bayer; four sisters, Louise Plato, Lily Radke, Beata Bayer and Rosemary Bayer (in infancy). Edna was born on May 5, 1924 in Portland, Oregon, and was raised on a farm in the Golden Prairie area. She was baptized into God’s family in Golden Prairie, and was confirmed in her faith at Peace Lutheran Church in Schuler. On August 12, 1945, she married Otto Kanewischer in Medicine Hat. They farmed in the Schuler area, and then moved to Medicine Hat. Edna was employed at Rabb’s Greenhouse for 24 years, and lived in her own home until her mid 80’s. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Edna was a quiet, soft spoken, and gentle lady, who led a simple life. She was grateful for each and every blessing that came her way. She will always be remembered for her loving smile, the sparkle in her eyes, and a gentle nod of thanks. She was a resident of The Good Samaritan, South Ridge Village, for the last few years where she was lovingly cared for by the kind and dedicated staff. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Friday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 – 10:55 a.m. The funeral service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church (515 Sprague Way SE) on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. .FOSTER, MARION ELIZABETH FRANCES

A Life Well Lived
Marion was born in Medicine Hat. Her parents, James and Elizabeth Spencer, died when Marion and her siblings were very young. The four children were raised by their grandmother, MaryAnn Clark, on the family ranch near the Cypress Hills and in their parents’ home in Medicine Hat. Marion attended Normal School in Calgary and went on to receive her B.Ed. and M.Ed. degrees at the University of Alberta. She taught in several communities in Southern Alberta, Edmonton, Vancouver and Victoria and spent two years as an exchange teacher in Christchurch, New Zealand. Marion enjoyed a productive retirement: becoming a licensed realtor, travelling extensively, golfing, sailing, walking, ballroom dancing and playing bridge with a wide circle of friends. Close family and friends celebrated Marion’s 100th birthday recently in Nanaimo where she has lived for the past several years.
Marion is lovingly remembered by Jim and Patti Spencer of Nanaimo, daughter Jackie (Owen), son Graham (Jen), Dianne and Chuck Hoffmann of Whitecourt, daughters Kimberly and Katie, Joyce Spencer and Dick Wong of Burnaby, daughter Kara, David Worden of Sandy Beach, Pat and Terry James of Vegreville, sons Ryan (Kendra), Jordan (Leah), Christopher (Amy), Devin (Kendall), Margaret Robertson of Edmonton and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Dave, her sisters Helen and Doris, and her brother Arnold.

Richard Davison passed away at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on Sunday, October 12, 2014, just short of his 59th birthday. Richard is survived by his mother, Florence Davison; brothers, John and Paul of England as well as his many co-workers and friends in Canada. 1924 – 2014
Theodore “Ted” Jesse was called to his heavenly home on Thursday, October 16, 2014, at the age of 90 years. He is survived by Lenora, his beloved wife of 66 years. He also leaves to cherish his memory his children, Janice (Robert) Burns and Darrell (Sandra) Jesse; three grandchildren, Shane Burns, Tyler (Amy) Jesse and Ryan (Ashley) Jesse; one sister-in-law, Anne Jesse, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Bernhard and Rosalia Jesse; his brothers, Edwin, Theodore (at the age of 2 years) and Otto and his grandson, Dalton. Ted was born on March 21, 1924 at Hilda. He attended Lodi School for grades one to six and New Hilda School for grades seven and eight. On October 24, 1947, he married Lenora Maier at Peace Lutheran Church in Schuler. Together, Ted and Lenora farmed the family homestead at Hilda for 28 years. After leaving the farm, Ted began his second career when he joined the Schlenker Auction team where he worked for 23 years. During his retirement years, Ted enjoyed camping in the motor home, fishing, and playing cards, as well as numerous hours spent crafting projects in his woodworking shop. Throughout his entire lifetime, Ted was a faithful and active member of his church. Mary Louise Walters of Medicine Hat, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2014, at the age of 91 years, beloved wife of the late Lloyd Walters. She leaves to cherish her memory two children, Linda (Norm) Spyker and Brenda (Vernon) Herter; five grandchildren, Norm (Michelle), Laura (Rod), Lana, Kimberly (Jamie) and Pamela (Darcy); eight great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Mercy and Joseph Cummings; her husband, Lloyd on January 2, 1997; one brother, Joseph and two sisters, Irene and Helen. Mary was born on August 13, 1923 in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan where she married Lloyd Walters on September 17, 1942. They resided in Fox Valley until the fall of 1962, at which time they moved to Medicine Hat. Mary was an avid reader and enjoyed doing embroidery. While living in Fox Valley she was very active in the C.W.L.
