.ANNE EMILY BARTMAN

December 31, 1935 ~ September 20, 2014

It is with the heaviest of hearts that the family of Mrs. Anne Emily Bartman (nee Debler), beloved wife of the late Mr. Lloyd Bartman, announce her peaceful passing while at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Saturday, September 20, 2014, at the age of 78 years. Mom was born as the youngest in a family of nine during a time when all one needed was located on the family farm. Mom’s description of the time included early mornings of milking cows, long walks to and from school, lunches of onion and lard sandwiches, baking bread, and collecting dried cow patties to use for fuel and heating in their tiny home. When the family moved into Medicine Hat, Mom began work at Dominion Glass and there she met her partner and best friend, Dad. They were married in 1955. Known as Maski and Paski, they formed a duo that thrived on love, honor, and devotion to each other. They couldn’t be apart. Although building a strong marriage and developing strong relationships with others was something Mom and Dad were good at, Mom’s true gift and passion was being caregiver, confidant, guide, and supporter to her four boys. With Dad as our coach and Mom as the “fanatic” in the bleachers, the two were ever present in all of our lives. Mom had a knack of developing in her sons a deep respect and love for each other. From their early days as kids to now grown adults with their own kids, Mom fostered and modeled what support and love should look like in a family. She continued to embody these wonderful qualities with her grandchildren. As a gramma, she took a special interest in the activities her grandchildren enjoyed. Gramma always made you feel like she knew you best and that she was always in your corner, ready for whatever was needed. Many days and nights were spent at Gramma’s, as there could never be too much time with family. Weekly family lunches, regular family suppers, family trips to Ontario, Victoria, Fernie and Germany – Gramma had a way of drawing us all together. She was the architect in creating a deep family attachment that has been passed on to the generations of Bartman’s that follow. Deeply loyal, intensely devoted, and immensely protective, Mom was our biggest fan. Her cheers for us will continue to be heard from the stands. Love ya lots, Ma. Give Dad a hug from all of us. You will be deeply missed by your children and grandchildren, Terry (Erika) and family, Rachel (Lorne Vossler) and Brett (fiancee, Dara Hanna); Darryl (Cheryl) and family, Jonathan and Lyndon (Courtney); Jamie (Birgit) and family, Michael and Joshua; and Troy (Krista) and family, Truman and Amaly; and sisters, Edna. Mom was predeceased by her husband and our dad, Lloyd in 2012; and brothers, Al, Tony, Gottlieb, Fred and Chris. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a Candlelight Celebration of Anne’s Life at Victory Lutheran Church, 2793 Southview Drive S.E., Medicine Hat on Tuesday evening, September 23, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. with Minister Lila de Waal officiating. Private family interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery prior to the life celebration.
