KAMMERER Andrew Kammerer passed away suddenly on August 22nd, 2014 at the age of 30 years. A loving son, grandson, brother, uncle, cousin & friend leaves incredible memories to those who’s lives he touched.
Andrew was born in Medicine Hat on a warm summer night in July and spent the next 20 years in the “Hat”. He graduated from McCoy High School in 2002. He was fun loving from the start, always positive and thoughtful of other people. He started making friends early and never stopped making new friends.
In his younger years Andrew developed a love for sports, especially Hockey. Andrew was active in minor baseball and minor hockey. He was a solid Flames fan right to the end, but his hockey hero was Wayne Gretzky. Andrew was lucky enough to get into the LA Kings dressing room after they beat his beloved Flames one night in the Saddledome. He spent 10 minutes with the “Great One” after the game. It was one of the most treasured memories of his youth.
Andrew developed a good work ethic early in life. He started going to work with his dad on the golf course when he was 8 years old. By the time he was 18 there weren’t many tasks he couldn’t accomplish at the course. However this was not the direction Andrew’s career would take. In 2004 Andrew started work with CPRail. He spent many years on the road in the signals and communications division at CP. Andrew saw every city and small town from Medicine Hat to Vancouver. All through those years he thought the west coast was where he wanted to be, so when the opportunity arose in the summer of 2012, Andrew was thrilled to accept a position in Vancouver where he worked until his passing.
He loved the West Coast scene, whether it was cruisin’ up to Indian Arm in his boat the “SSWamBam”, heading up to Cypress Mountain for some snowboarding after work, hangin’ out at Wreck Beach or heading out in the evening for some good times with his close friends. West Coast living was right up his alley.
Andrew touched many lives. He could light up a room with his presence and make everyone feel like he was their best friend. His generosity towards his friends was unsurpassed. He was gifted with an uplifting spirit and was undoubtedly the kindest soul you will ever meet. In the words of his friends Andrew was described as: genuine, caring, selfless, coolest, kindest, top dude, positive and one of a kind. Andrew was “all love and no hate”, maybe he was “too good for this world”.
Andrew is survived by and is the only child of his father Doug and his mom Debbie; his mother Nancy (Dan) Romanchuk; his grandparents; Syl & Tina Kammerer; Harry & Linda Koenig. His sisters Shylha Wogrinc and her children Hayley, Hunter & Hudson; Kristin Dorchak and her children Sydney, Parker, Grayslyn, Jaykeb & Marli; Kaitlyn Romanchuk and her children Nixynn & Addalynn; his brother Jordan Romanchuk; his brothers- in-law Cory and Wade along with many other special family, close cousins, aunts, uncles and great friends.
In honour of Andrew consider buying someone a flower for no particular reason, filling out your organ donation card or doing a good deed. He would like that. The funeral service will be held in Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road SE) on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. with Life Celebrant, David Townsend. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to remember Andrew with a donation may direct it to Kidsport Medicine Hat and Redcliff, Box 36107 Lakeview RPO, Calgary, Alberta T3E 7C6. Please specify that funds are for Kidsport Medicine Hat and Redcliff.
