1926 ~ FIKOWSKI ~ 2014The Family of Edward Lawrence Fikowski is very saddened to announce his peaceful passing on July 23rd, 2014 at the age of 87, while surrounded and comforted by family members. Ed was born in Spring Valley, Saskatchewan, the fifth oldest of 15 children of Mary and Michael Fikowski. Ed is survived by his wife, Mary; his son, Dale (Pawana); his daughter, Shelley (Piero); his daughter-in-law, Glenda; six grandchildren, Grant (Cheryl), Craig (Lori), Kyla (Darren), Amanda (Matt), Tyler, and Sophon (Pop); and six great grandchildren. Ed was predeceased by sons, Leslie and Larry; five brothers, Frank, Michael, Wenzel, Mike, and Joe; and sister, Frances. Ed and Mary married in 1948, then farmed in the Boharm, Saskatchewan area for 17 years. They moved to Elkwater in 1967 and became part owners of the Green Tree Motel for over seven years. After moving to Medicine Hat for two years, they then relocated to Grande Prairie and back into the motel business. Ed retired back to Medicine Hat where he began his much loved career of golfing, spending many winters golfing in Phoenix. A special thank-you to all the doctors, nurses, and caregivers at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. 1937 ~ 2014
Mrs. Gail Elaine Clarke (nee McLean), wife of the late Mr. Arthur Clarke, passed away peacefully while at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at the age of 76 years. Gail was born in Winnipeg, MB., the eldest of two daughters to Colin and ?Madeline McLean. She completed her schooling in Winnipeg and married Art in 1962, sharing 24 years of marriage before his untimely passing in 1986. She was proud of the fact that she was the first woman to graduate in an all male dominated accounting class. She believed she helped break through that stereotypical world. Gail worked for many years as an Accounting Technician until her retirement. Her generous nature was always at the forefront of her volunteering within the community and Gail was a huge supporter of the Arts in Medicine Hat and believed the Esplanade had the best acoustics anywhere… she loved live theatre. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was fond of helping with the festivities surrounding Canada Day. Gail will be forever remembered in the hearts of her three daughters, Meredith, Jocelyn and Erin; her grandchildren, Lucas and Sophie; nieces and nephews, Sandy, Frank, Alana, Heather and her grand-niece, Laura. She was predeceased by her husband, Art; parents, Colin and?Madeline as well as one sister, Sandra. The family wish to thank Dr. Glas, Dr. Monte and the staff of Health Worx and Drs. Foley, Trudeau, North and staff at the Margery E. Yuill Cancer Centre for all their care and attention to Gail. The Funeral Service will be celebrated at St. Barnabas Anglican Church, 635 – 4 Street S.E., Medicine Hat, on Saturday, July 26, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Canon Gene Packwood officiating. HELEN MURIEL’ RONNESOctober 16, 1927 – July 21, 2014
Muriel Ronnes of Medicine Hat passed away Monday, July 21, 2014, at the age of 86 years, beloved wife of the late Russell Ronnes. She leaves to cherish her memory, sister Shirley (Ross) Zuehlke ofVulcan; niece, Diane Cannon of Los Angeles; nephew, Robert Klien and his wife Judith Horton, her main care giver and friend of Medicine Hat; sister-in-law, Alma Brown of Redcliff; niece, Barb (Wayne) Ramsay of Medicine Hat; nephew, Greg (Trish) Brown of Calgary also numerous other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Tom and Helen Brown; sister, Doreen Dorohoy; brother, Robert Brown, and husband Russell Ronnes. Muriel started working in ladies ready to wear as a teenager in Eaton’s and eventually started her own dress shop, Joy’s Styles, which was located on 3rd Street downtown. Joy’s Styles became THE’place for ladies to shop for many, many years. She was a very successful business person.
Talented in business and so many other endeavors. Sewing, needle work, crocheting, knitting, hardanger embroider to name a few of her many ventures. Whatever project she did, she did well. You were a very lucky person if you received one of Muriel’s accomplishments. Muriel married the love of her life, Russell Ronnes in 1949. In 1951, they leased land at Elkwater and hand built a log cabin with the help of many friends and family. Every log was cut locally and hauled by mules to the cabin site. They loved to entertain, lots of good memories were made at that cabin. Muriel was the treasurer and was instumental in organizing the history book Cypress Hill Country’. Muriel’s family has a long history in the Cypress Hills. Her grandfather, Lancelot Charles Brown started the L.C. Ranch in the 1880’s that is still owned and operated by the family. Muriel and Russ moved to Meadowland’s Lodge in 2007. It was a good move for both of them. Russ passed away January 2009 and Muriel’s spirit was never the same again. She did appreciate the company of other residents and enjoyed activities, especially playing cards with her friend Viola Beres. Unfortunately, over the past couple of years Muriel developed dementia and it was increasingly hard for her to participate. Muriel had a wonderful strength of character. She was honest and forth right in everything she did.
The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Canon R. Ivor Ottrey officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. LEONARD WINKLER1920 ~ 2014
Mr. Leonard R. Winkler, beloved husband of Mrs. Margaret Winkler, passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Wednesday, July 23, 2014, just shy of his 94th birthday. Left behind to cherish his memory are his children, Leslie (Vicki), Reginald, Timothy and Bruce (Connie) and their children, Ariel and Kailye; sisters, Dorothy and Evelyn and brothers, Dave and Donald. He was predeceased by a son, Dennis in 1987; parents, Susanna and Theodore; sisters, Frieda and Pauline and a brother, Walter. Leonard was born in Big Stick District, Saskatchewan on August 7, 1920. He married Margaret Huber on April 10, 1942 before he left to serve in the army during WWII. Upon his return to Golden Prairie, he farmed for the next two years before moving to Medicine Hat in 1947. He had a lengthy career in radio and tv repair and mobile communications. He retired from R&W Electronics in 1985. He was a long time member of the Hat Ham Radio Club. Leonard enjoyed amateur radio (VE6ALA), wood working, watching sports and visiting with his coffee buddies before his stroke in 2012. LESLEY ARCHAMBAULT(nee Cameron)

It is with great sadness that I announce the loss of my daughter Lesley, to cancer. She was pre- deceased by her father, Jim Cameron, only 17 days earlier. Along with her family in Uxbridge, Lesley is survived by her loving mother, Jean Cameron and her brother Paul (Marie) Cameron of Medicine Hat. She is also survived by her sister Cheryl (Sheldon Spier) Cameron, of Chemainus, BC. Lesley was buried in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Uxbridge, Ontario. Lesley’s spirit is with us and with her father now. She will remain in our hearts forever.

NICHOLSONMichael M.J. Nicholson passed away at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at the age of 60 years. He leaves behind his sons Trevor (Nicole) and their children Talia and Charlie of Calgary and Shawn (Amy) and their children Meara and Finley of Edmonton; two sisters Helen (Barry) Kurtz and their children Kyle, Braden, Christina (Kenny Ryan) and sons Chase and Easton of Calgary and Mitchell Kurtz of Medicine Hat; Marion McRoberts of Medicine Hat and her family, Tim of Redcliff, Clayton of Lethbridge, David of Medicine Hat, Michael (Ashley) of Edmonton and Serina McRoberts of Medicine Hat as well as many cousins throughout Canada and the U.S. Michael was predeceased by his mother Marjorie (nee Dyer) in 1987, the mother of his sons Linda (nee Gilchrist) in 1994 and father Michael in 2002. Michael was born on September 7, 1953 in Medicine Hat to Marjorie and Michael Nicholson of Comrey, Alberta. From an early age Michael suffered with heart problems and had open heart surgery at the age of 5 years. He recovered and took on many different pursuits in his life. He attended Manyberries School, Olds College and Medicine Hat College. Michael worked in various farming and ranching capacities but his true passion seemed to spring forth when he discovered long-haul truck driving and working as an equipment operator. His love of story telling about people he met and places he saw across North America was well known amongst his peers. He was a member of the Elks Club of Medicine Hat, Past President of the Manyberries Community Association and a volunteer for the Lions, Legion and Children’s festival in Bow Island. RATHGregory “Greg” Edward Rath of Medicine Hat passed away on Monday, July 21, 2014, at the age of 59 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Tammy Street of Unity, Susanne (Bryce) Jensen of Two Hills and Jennifer Rath of Blackfalds; his parents, Edward and Doreen Rath of Elkwater; three grandchildren, Trista, Taelyn and Zoey; two brothers, Kelvin Rath and Keith Rath (fiancé Christie Radke) as well as nieces and nephews, Trisha and Clayton, and Ryan and Amanda. He was predeceased by one brother, Terry Rath in 1959. Greg was born in Medicine Hat on October 21, 1954. He was raised on the ranch north of Elkwater and worked there until he started his own family and ranch a few miles away, also working as a heavy equipment operator for the Department of Highways, Cypress County and various earthmoving companies. Five years ago, Greg semi-retired to his ranch. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Friday, July 25, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Jane Mitchell officiating.
