.1942 ~ BERTHA ANNIE LITOWSKY ~ 2014
Bertha was born in Medicine Hat on February 11th, 1942, and passed away suddenly in her home on April 9th, 2014. Bertha is survived by her beloved husband, N. Joseph “Joe” Litowsky; son, Randy (Diana) Archer; grandchildren, Krystal Archer (Brad Hurt) of Crossfield, Alberta and Curtis Archer (Hannah Coderre) of Calgary; step-daughter, Tina Milley (Steve); step-sons, Joe Litowsky (Charlene) and Gerald Litowsky; step- grandchildren, Cody and Marissa Milley, Nicholas Litowsky (Kristy), and Mason Litowsky. Also left to cherish her memory are her mother, Emma Tetz; her sisters, Linda Andres, Edna Brusky (Ruben Blumhagen), and Rose Tevel (Gary), all from Medicine Hat; her brother, Harold Biittner (Lorraine) of Stoney Plain, Alberta; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bertha was predeceased by her father, Reinhold Biittner. Bertha lived her early years with her sisters and brother at their parents’ farm west of Schuler, Alberta. Early in her life she worked at the City Cafe where she was known as ‘Smiley’. She also worked at Safeway, the Travelodge, and Kenworth. In 1972, she achieved national recognition for sales from the Tupperware Corporation. She was married to James “Jim” Archer and Harold Stern, and for the last 29 years to Nicholas Joseph “Joe” Litowsky. She lived her life in Medicine Hat, Calgary, Vancouver, and Burnaby, BC. Bertha always loved the ocean, the beaches, and their community gardens in Burnaby. Many family visits were spent just walking English Bay and Kitsilano beaches and throwing rocks into the ocean. Bertha was active in her church where her passion for Family History grew from a personal hobby to serve as the director of the LDS Genealogy in Vancouver for many years. She helped many families find their roots. Later she worked with children and the missionaries at LDS’s Burnaby and Richmond wards. Because of her activities, she had many friends throughout the Vancouver inner mainland; many have moved on to places across Canada and around the world. Upon retiring back to Medicine Hat in 2008, Bertha was able to reconnect with her sisters, mother, and family. She spent much time chatting with her many friends via the Internet, and running that family farm via Farm Town. She had a big heart and was always worried about her family and others less fortunate than her, helping out wherever she could. We had a small family get-together earlier this month…Mom would have called it “One of Life’s Blessings”. It was definitely a treasure. A Celebration of Bertha’s Life will be held at the CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, 7 Sunrise Drive SW, on Friday, April 25th, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Bishop Bryan Heninger presiding. A lunch and social will follow at the church. Memorial gifts in Bertha’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
