1924 ~ WOOD ~ 2014Born August 29th, 1924 in Hanley, Saskatchewan, Donald “Don” William Wood, passed away on Friday, August 29th, 1924 at the age of 89 years. Don was the beloved husband of Doreen, loving father of Nancy Elander, Don M. Wood, and William “Bill” Wood; loving grandfather to Jennifer (Brenden) Bianchini, Allison (Carl) Reine and Morgan (Sayaka) Elander; great-grandfather to Celia, Edwin and Sora. Don was the son of Harold and Jessie Wood. They moved from Hanley to Weirdale, Saskatchewan in the 1930’s where they opened the General Store. He married Doreen Dickinson in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan in 1947. Don joined the OK Economy Stores in 1948 and moved from PA to Kinistino, to Eston and back to PA where they lived until they opened the Hickory Farms in Medicine Hat in 1980. Don was predeceased by his parents; and his brother, Alexander O. (Sandy) Wood. Don was an avid gardener and hockey/curling fan. He took great pride and joy in his flowers and the variety of birds he attracted with all their bird feeders. A Private Family Time of Remembrance will be held at a later date. ALLERDINGSAt the age of 90 years, Anita Allerdings passed away peacefully at the Whispering Pines Lodge in Grande Cache, Alberta.
She was born to the late Hermann-Hinrich and Tine Alwine Claussen on May 17, 1923, in Marne, Germany. She had four brothers, Walter, Edward, Carl Herman and Bruno (all deceased). She grew up in Germany during the Second World War, and was sponsored by her brother Edward, to make a new life in Canada on May 27, 1954. She married the late Ewald Allerdings on November 20, 1954, and they lived together happily in the Flats in Medicine Hat, raising their family and building their lives as proud Canadians.
Anita loved being an Oma, and although she was older, she was young at heart and played with her grandchildren on a level far beyond her age. Family meant everything to her, and everything she did was for the family. She left post-secondary scholarships for all of her grandchildren, and helped them follow their dreams.
Anita is survived by two children, Erwin (Marilee) Allerdings and Arlene (Steve) Fiest. She also is survived by four grandchildren, Evan Allerdings, Hannah Fiest (Nolan), Leah Allerdings, and Reno Fiest. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. The graveside interment will be held in the Hillside Cemetery on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Those attending are requested to be at the cemetery gates at 12:45 p.m. Following the interment service, all are welcome to join Erwin and Arlene at Whiskey Creek, Creekside Reception Center (937 13th Street SW). In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society 401D 3rd Street SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 0G8. It is with sadness that the family of the late Mrs. Mary Elizabeth McKendry announce her peaceful passing at St. Joseph’s Carmel Hospice on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at the age of 77 years. PETERSONCarolina Peterson passed away on Friday, March 7, 2014, at the age of 78 years. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Bernand. She also leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Ron (Peggy) and Dale (Colleen); her grandchildren, Jennifer (Kyle) Stanko, Ken (Shelagh) Peterson, Adam (Ashley) Peterson, Heather (Tyler) Gosnell and Christopher Peterson; eight great grandchildren, Alex, Kevin, Makayla, Janessa, Kylie, Lucas, Austin and Dreyden and her brother, Eddie (Shirley) Winder. She was predeceased by her parents, Julius and Elizabeth Winder; her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Roy Schaffer and her father and mother-in-law, Kai and Myrtle Peterson. Carolina was born on May 8, 1935 at Rosenthal, near Fox Valley. At the age of 11 she moved to Medicine Hat with her parents where she was raised. On November 13, 1953, she married Bernand Peterson. Carolina enjoyed travelling down south, cross stitching, golfing and sewing. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the ladies from Home Care as well as Dr. Edwards and the nurses and staff at the Bow Island Hospital for the excellent care and attention they provided for Carolina. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 TO 10:55 am. The funeral mass will be celebrated in Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road SE) on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Philip Le celebrant. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery.
