.TREIBER
George Wayne Treiber of Medicine Hat, passed away on March 4th, 2014, at the age of 63 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his siblings: Barry (Gloria) Treiber of Medicine Hat, Darrell Treiber of Vancouver, Kevin (Joyce) Treiber of Medicine Hat and Cheryl Treiber (Mike Schmidt) of Medicine Hat; four nieces and nephews, Jerrime (Pam) Treiber; Jennifer Treiber (fiancé, Mark Lawson), Peter (Christy) Treiber and Matthew Treiber; and his special friend Susan Wenzel. He was predeceased by his parents Marie and Robert Treiber. George was born in Calgary January 18th, 1951. He grew up in Schuler on the family farm. It was there, under the influence and guidance of his Dad, that he learned and developed a strong and enthusiastic work ethic. The family moved to Medicine Hat in 1971, where George continued his education, graduating from the Georges P. Vanier School in 1973. From there, he attended the Kinsmen Training Centre continuing to learn, work and play! In 1974, George participated in the Canadian Special Olympics in Winnipeg and in 1975, George became a force to reckon with at the Southern Alberta Summer Games in Taber taking two gold medals and one silver in the Track and Field events. In 1981, George applied for the position of Custodian with the Medicine Hat School District No. 76. This was the beginning of his long and fulfilling career. George initially served as Custodian at the Georges P. Vanier School and was soon moved to Medicine Hat High School. During his years at the High School, George made many friends and always enjoyed interacting with the students, teachers and his co-workers. George retired from the School District in June 2012 after 31 years of service. George enjoyed a good cup of coffee and especially getting together and talking with the many friends he made over the years. He got to enjoy both these pleasures everyday – each morning he would walk over to the Dunmore Road A&W and after lunch, a short bus trip would find him at Tim Horton’s downtown. Throughout his life, George loved his music – not only listening to it but also playing along. Whether he was playing his banjo, harmonica, tambourine or the spoons – the sparkle in his eye, the huge grin on his face and his tapping feet all told you George was “into the tune”! George enjoyed attending Victory Lutheran Church where for the past 25+ years he proudly rang the church bells every Sunday morning. When the bells rang out, people in the community always said, “Oh! There’s George!” Everyone knew. George truly loved people and his family. He always had a kind word, a funny joke or a smile that came directly from his heart. There is no doubt George’s presence will be missed – but the world is definitely a better place because he was here. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 9:30 – 10:25 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the Victory Lutheran Church (2793 Southview Drive SE) on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Joe Leavengood officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery.
