.BUYE
Agnes Margaret Buye of Medicine Hat, passed away on Sunday March 2, 2014 at the age of 91 years, beloved wife of the late Nick Buye. She leaves to cherish her memory, nine children, Ernest L. Buye, Robert (Gladys) Buye, Daniel (Gwen) Buye, Grace (Wayne) Forsythe, Harvey (Linda) Buye, Colleen Buye, Garry (Nancy) Buye, Ron (Mary Ellen) Buye and Joanne (Trevor) Govender; twenty two grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; one brother, Larry Bakanec; two sisters, Anne Szuch and Emma Obritsch as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Nick on May 16, 2011; one son Glenn; her brothers, Thomas, Aloys, James, Anthony and Frank; two sisters, Justina Hudec and Josephine Hudec. Mom was born October 25, 1922, on the Bakanec family farm at Fox Valley, Saskatchewan. Mom and dad married on November 18, 1942, and lived on the original Buye family farm, raising their children and enjoying farm life until they retired to Medicine Hat in 1986. In February 2013, mom moved to Chinook Village Retirement Community and then to Sunnyside Long Term Care Center in January 2014. Mom adored farm life, especially her flower and vegetable gardens and her chickens. She spent countless hours cooking for her family, making hundreds of perogies for Christmas dinner, canning fruit and vegetables, making butter and cottage cheese, baking pies, buns, bread and of course her famous cinnamon rolls. She also took special food orders that you were sure to get when we were growing up on the farm or when you came to visit in Medicine Hat. Mom worked tirelessly from morning to night. Occasionally, she would “lay down for 15 minutes” only to be back up after 10 minutes and back to work. A highlight for mom was traveling to Slovakia in 1996, with her sister and niece where they visited relatives and Grandpa Bakanec’s place of birth. Mom loved nature and God’s little creatures. She especially loved butterflies and found great pleasure in watching them flutter in her flower garden. Mom enjoyed having visitors and no one could leave her home without having a “bite to eat.” Visits from grandchildren and great grandchildren lit up mom’s life. She would leave the “little finger prints” on the windows so she could enjoy them long after the children had gone home. Everywhere you looked were pictures of her family from tiny little framed ones, to ones on the fridge, down the hallway and in each room. Mom was all about her family. As mom’s last days drew near she continued to show her expression of love for her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren with her smile. Mom’s faith in God throughout her life carried her through the grief of losing her son Glenn and her beloved husband of 68 years Nick. Her family and friends and any one who knew her will cherish the times we spent together. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Family and friends will gather for prayers in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated in Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road SE) on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. .TREIBER
George Wayne Treiber of Medicine Hat, passed away on March 4th, 2014, at the age of 63 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his siblings: Barry (Gloria) Treiber of Medicine Hat, Darrell Treiber of Vancouver, Kevin (Joyce) Treiber of Medicine Hat and Cheryl Treiber (Mike Schmidt) of Medicine Hat; four nieces and nephews, Jerrime (Pam) Treiber; Jennifer Treiber (fiancé, Mark Lawson), Peter (Christy) Treiber and Matthew Treiber; and his special friend Susan Wenzel. He was predeceased by his parents Marie and Robert Treiber. George was born in Calgary January 18th, 1951. He grew up in Schuler on the family farm. It was there, under the influence and guidance of his Dad, that he learned and developed a strong and enthusiastic work ethic. The family moved to Medicine Hat in 1971, where George continued his education, graduating from the Georges P. Vanier School in 1973. From there, he attended the Kinsmen Training Centre continuing to learn, work and play! In 1974, George participated in the Canadian Special Olympics in Winnipeg and in 1975, George became a force to reckon with at the Southern Alberta Summer Games in Taber taking two gold medals and one silver in the Track and Field events. In 1981, George applied for the position of Custodian with the Medicine Hat School District No. 76. This was the beginning of his long and fulfilling career. George initially served as Custodian at the Georges P. Vanier School and was soon moved to Medicine Hat High School. During his years at the High School, George made many friends and always enjoyed interacting with the students, teachers and his co-workers. George retired from the School District in June 2012 after 31 years of service. George enjoyed a good cup of coffee and especially getting together and talking with the many friends he made over the years. He got to enjoy both these pleasures everyday – each morning he would walk over to the Dunmore Road A&W and after lunch, a short bus trip would find him at Tim Horton’s downtown. Throughout his life, George loved his music – not only listening to it but also playing along. Whether he was playing his banjo, harmonica, tambourine or the spoons – the sparkle in his eye, the huge grin on his face and his tapping feet all told you George was “into the tune”! George enjoyed attending Victory Lutheran Church where for the past 25+ years he proudly rang the church bells every Sunday morning. When the bells rang out, people in the community always said, “Oh! There’s George!” Everyone knew. George truly loved people and his family. He always had a kind word, a funny joke or a smile that came directly from his heart. There is no doubt George’s presence will be missed – but the world is definitely a better place because he was here. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 9:30 – 10:25 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the Victory Lutheran Church (2793 Southview Drive SE) on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Joe Leavengood officiating.
