HUTCHINSON, BETHBeth Hutchinson, beloved daughter of David and the late Kay Hutchinson and sister of Grace, formerly of Medicine Hat, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2013 at the age of 20 years. Beth was born on March 3, 1993 in Swindon, Wiltshire, England, and moved with her family to Medicine Hat in 2002. Beth attended Seven Persons School from grades 4-9, then began grade 10 at Eagle Butte High School before relocating with her family to White Rock, B.C. in October, 2008. Beth graduated from Elgin Park Secondary School in 2011, and enjoyed participating in the school’s musical productions. Beth’s intelligence, cheerfulness, and wit ensured she made lifelong friends wherever she lived, as did her courage and resilience. Following the death of her mother, Kay, in December, 2009, Beth was diagnosed with brain cancer in January, 2010. Emulating the example set by her mom, Beth accepted the diagnosis of cancer with grace and dignity, and was more worried about the impact her illness would have on those she loved than on herself. Beth fought valiantly and was determined to experience as many things as she could, including a semester of university at UBC, Okanagan Campus. When no longer able to attend school, Beth returned home and began to complete items on her bucket list, including skydiving from 8000 ft with Grace. Beth was an avid Harry Potter and Sherlock Holmes fan, and enjoyed a special trip with her dad to the UK in September, 2013 where she visited the Harry Potter film set, as well as the Sherlock Holmes Museum on 221B Baker Street. Beth’s optimism and joy of life were contagious, and she truly taught those around her to make the most of every moment they have. In honor of Beth’s love of tea, a Celebration of Life Tea Party is being held in Surrey, BC on November 2, 2013. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to the Make A Wish Foundation, 112-2025 West Broadway, Vancouver BC, V6J 1Z6.

LARRY EDWIN MAZURENKOApril 13, 1939 – October 16, 2013
Larry passed away into eternal peace at the Carmel Hospice, following an eight year battle with depression and then cancer. Survived by his wife Lillian, sons Garrett (Kelly) and Christopher, grandsons Tyler and Quinlan, one sister Patricia and one brother Leroy.
Larry was born at Tomahawk, Alberta, attended Weasel Creek School and Radway Schools. When he went to Edmonton he worked in a lumber yard for a short time, then took up electronics and repaired radios and TVs. Decided he liked working in the Automotive Industry and did so for 57 years. While residing in Edmonton Larry worked at Koch Mercury for 13 years. They then moved to Medicine Hat in 1979 eventually owning Big M Lincoln Mercury and Cajun Motors.
We are so thankful Larry bravely ventured out of the Hospice to partake in his last Thanksgiving dinner with his family; almost like he was holding on for this last visit before letting go three days later. That evening there was some laughter, some advice, some humour and some pain. We will miss him, and we know he is now at peace. Larry was a leader, entrepreneur, a listener, and would always help people. Through his career he developed such a positive reputation that friends, colleagues, and customers followed him as he progressed his career within the automotive industry. A private family graveside service was held on Friday, November 1, 2013 at Hillside Cemetery with Life Celebrant, David Townsend. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations in memory of Larry may be directed to Carmel Hospice (St. Joseph’s Home) c/o 156 3rd Street NE, Medicine Hat, T1A 5M1. VAL MORLEY
Michael Morley along with his sons sadly announces the passing of their loving wife and mum, Val Morley on October 30, 2013 at the age of 57 years. Valerie Rae Pritchard was born on October 11, 1956 in Cartwright, Manitoba near the Pritchard family farm. She had three older siblings with a baby sister to follow. Unfortunately her parents had to auction the farm due to her dad’s health issues following WWII. Val started grade one in Roblin, Manitoba where her dad worked with passion helping other veterans at Veterans Land Act. Weekends were spent enjoying the Duck Mountains. The family moved to Brandon, Manitoba in the summer of 1967. Her parents towed a “compact” trailer with the two youngest girls across Canada – Atlantic Ocean one summer; the Pacific Ocean the next. Valerie completed grade 12 and first year university in Brandon. She then transferred to the University of Manitoba where she obtained a degree in psychology in 1977 as well as lifelong friends and memories while living at U.C. Residence. An even more valuable life education took place during a backpacking trip to Europe in 1977 with a dear friend. Many friends had already moved to Alberta. Valerie followed the trend attending the University of Lethbridge and graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor of Education (with Great Distinction). By September she was a fulltime staff member at Crescent Heights High School. Students, families and colleagues made this a wonderful workplace for her. She remained a staff member until her retirement in June of 2012; however, her active participation at work had been curtailed for four years due to health issues. Shortly after moving to Medicine Hat, Val met Michael and married the love of her life, July 1982. They completed their family with two sons, Logan and Braden. Val loved her boys. She actually enjoyed being a sports mum, organizing tournaments, and even the bus trips! No matter the journey they chose, Val and Mike loved their sons unconditionally. In the summer of 1995, Val and the boys moved to Pincher Creek, Alberta where Mike was working. As a family they fell in love with the mountains and dragged the boys along on many adventures. Unfortunately, cancer placed a curve in life’s road for Val in 1996. So by September she and the boys returned to Medicine Hat to be close to family. Val also returned part-time to Crescent Heights High School (like a home to her) where she eventually became a member of the counselling office. The family’s love of the mountains led to the purchase of a lot in the hamlet of Beaver Mines. Val and Mike’s little home took 15 years of summer projects to complete; but at any stage of construction, family and friends were always welcome to join in on mountain activities. Val was too busy planning all the activities to be a fussy host. But you were sure to leave the cabin with special memories. Val loved the view, the air, the friends and all the opportunities to be active winter and summer. Following 12 years of remission, cancer once again became a part of Val’s life. For as long as possible her approach was to live every moment without being controlled by cancer. She loved her hats and accessories and once she knew her chemo’s routine, she had PLANS! to keep up, Mike also retired. They enjoyed many winter getaways and trips to the Maritimes for two summers. Val’s love of life will be carried on by her Michael. Her sons, Logan and Braden, each carry a very special part of her heart as her mum’s love isnever-ending XO. She will be sadly missed by her Manitoba family: Murray (Audrey) Pritchard, Trudy (Bill) Gray, Shirley (Grant Watson, Faye (Doug) Allison. Val maintained special relationships with her nieces and nephews and their families through countless trips to Manitoba. Especially lively family gatherings kept these family ties. She was predeceased by her father Evans 1982, her grandma Jean 2000, stepfather Don 2012 and most sadly, her mother Gwen 2012. The surviving Morley family includes: Frances Morley (Don 2004) and Jim and Lis (Oakville, Ontario) and their children Amanda and Derek. Mike’s sister, Donna (Brian) Schneider and their three children are a very special part of Val’s life. Their families have grown together sharing holidays, celebrations and recently weddings. Auntie Val loved Lindy (Darrell), Janay (Kirk) and Rylan (Amy) so very much. The funeral service will be held in the Cypress Centre (2055 21st Ave SE) on Monday, November 4, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant, David Townsend. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital “Equipment Fund” 666 5th Street SW, Medicine Hat, Alberta T1A 4H6.
