1925 ~ JASSMAN ~ 2013Mr. Reinhold “Ray” Jassman, beloved husband of Mrs. Viola “Vi” Jassman of Medicine Hat, passed away on Monday, October 14th, 2013 at the age of 88 years. Ray also leaves to cherish his memory four children, Pearl (Harold) Plato, Norm (Lani) Jassman, Bradley (Patricia “Trish”) Jassman, and Raylene (Daryl) Elsasser; twelve grandchildren; twelve great- grandchildren; one brother, Alex (Jackie) Jassman; three sisters-in-law, Anne Janke, Elsie (Louie) Kirschenman and Idella (Raymond) Ehnisz; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ray was predeceased by his parents, Simon and Rosina Jassman; one grandson, Trent Plato; four brothers, Robert, Robert (June), “Jay” Julius (Alice), and Ted (Elsie); two sisters, Lydia (Max) Elgie and Tillie (Fred) Siewert; one brother-in-law, Adolf Janke; and one sister-in-law, Katie Roth. 1926 ~ 2013
Mr. Edwin (Ed) Knodel, beloved husband of Mrs. Margaret Knodel of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully at the Riverview Care Centre on Thursday, October 10, 2013, age 87 years. Ed was born in Medicine Hat September 30,1926, to loving parents, John and Sofia Knodel. He was raised in Medicine Hat, and after finishing his education, entered the teaching profession. Ed taught for several years, accepting positions in Orion, Vauxhall, Lethbridge, and Armada where he became principal, and met the love of his life, Margaret. They married in Lethbridge March 1, 1952, then moved back to Medicine Hat where Ed purchased his father’s shares of Powerhouse Greenhouses. Eventually, Ed and Marg started their own operation – Greenwood Gardens, then later Crescent Heights Florists – both becoming well known throughout the community. In the late 60’s, Ed returned to teaching at Elm Street School, then entered the Real Estate profession, eventually owning and operating Big K Realty. Due to his integrity and work ethic, Ed became an influential figure in local Real Estate, mentoring numerous successful agents in the process. He was also a founding member of the Red Hat Grower Cooperative which continues to thrive and grow to this day. Whether in his professional or family life, Ed maintained an unblemished commitment to honesty and integrity. Ed loved life, whether kibitzing with his children and grandchildren or golfing and bowling with his “Buddies”. He was a dedicated family man and will be deeply missed by all he knew. Ed’s memory will be cherished by his wife, Margaret; sons, Barry (Marlene), Wayne (Terry Lynn), Grant (Lynn) and Neale; grandchildren, Jay (Ashley), Janine (Paul), Allison, Abrielle and Macauley; great-grandchildren, Lane, Maci and Caleb; sisters, Lil (Jim) Richardson and Vi Ferguson; sister- in-law, Edna Knodel, and numerous other relatives. He was predeceased by parents, John & Sofia Knodel; siblings, Elsie, Art, Leah, Herb, Emil, Alice and infant sister, Karlin. KURTZOtelia Kurtz of Medicine Hat, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2013, at the age of 89 years.She leaves to cherish her memory her four children, Wayne (Doris) Knight, Doreen Florkowski, Patrick Knight and Sandra Rae; fourteen grandchildren, Michelle, Christina, Corrina, Darlene, Nanette, Jennifer, Candace, Melanie, Jason, Allona, Shawn, Sharleen, Michelle and Ryan, thirty great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by her parents Fred and Rosa Heather; her first husband, Harvey Knight and second husband, Albert Kurtz; one son, Gordon Knight; four brothers, Bill, Fred, Rueben and Emil Heather and two sisters, Irene Hoff and Edna Hoff. With heavy hearts the family of Violet (Vi) Catherine Dixon, beloved wife of Gordon Dixon of Medicine Hat, announce her passing at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Saturday, October 12, 2013, at the age of 82 years. Violet was born in Watrous, Saskatchewan on July 8, 1931, a daughter to proud parents, Charlie and Ruth Neil. She was raised in Watrous where she went to school and made many wonderful childhood memories in the time spent at the nearby Manitou Lake. Vi met the love of her life Gordon, and were married in Watrous on June 25, 1949. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Kindersley and remained in the area where they were blessed with the births of their children. Vi was a nurturing, loving mother and grandmother who embraced her life with family. She maintained the household and took great pride in her home and yard and was an exceptional cook and host – no one ever left hungry! While in Kindersley she worked at Robinson’s and Zellers and owned and operated a successful little business, Vi’s Kitchen Boutique. She was active and enjoyed life…she and Gordon would attend socials and go dancing, play cards with friends and even took up skiing for a number of years. Vi liked to travel and loved to visit Las Vegas. In 1997, they moved to Medicine Hat where she began working in various stores as a food and product demonstrator and worked at the Casino as a blackjack dealer. People were naturally drawn to Vi as she had an infectious smile and was always pleasant. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Vi’s memory will be cherished in the hearts of her family including her husband, Gordon; children, Murray Leslie Dixon, Marcie Lee (Bill) Delday, Charles Frank Dixon and Russel Howard Dixon; nine grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Rose Liogier and a brother, Paul Neil as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was predeceased by her parents, Charlie and Ruth Neil and a brother, Quinn Neil. ZUBOTFrieda Anna Zubot of Lethbridge, formerly of Medicine Hat passed away peacefully while sleeping on Saturday, October 12, 2013, atthe age of 92 years, beloved wife of the late Emanuel Zubot.She leaves to cherish her memory two children, Linda Zubot of Lethbridge and Kathleen Countryman (Mike O’Neill) of Lac Pelletier, Saskatchewan; five grandchildren, Roberta (Kevin), Christopher (Tricia), Jim (Shawna), Kerri (Darren) and Timothy; great grandchildren, Gabrielle, Nathaniel, Leanne, Kaylee, Jadeon, Connor, Nevaeh, Zac and Halle; four sisters, Alvina Schmitt, Linda Sticklemier, Rose and Harvey Mantie and Marlene Hennessey; brother and sister in-laws, Ann Mardian, Michael Zubot, Ann Zubot, Barney and Rose Zubot, Alex and Isolda Zubot, Bea Zubot, Paul and Rosemary Zubot as well as numerous nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by her parents, Anna and Gustave Bauer, her husband Emanuel on October 31, 2005; son-in-law, Robert Shoemaker; one sister, Pauline Zubot and brothers, Edward, Erwin, Bill and Lloyd Bauer. Frieda was born on a farm near Burstall on April 23, 1921. She married Emanuel on October 29, 1942 at the Military Chapel in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. Together they made their home in Carmichael, Gull Lake and then Medicine Hat. Mom had relocated to Lethbridge two weeks prior to her passing. Mom was an artist sharing her talents while a Girl Guide leader, Legion Auxiliary and CWL member. She was passionate when line dancing, golfing or swimming thankful for each time she was able to continue to participate. A deck of cards guaranteed the competitive side of Mom. A twinkle in her eye, a grin then victory was how she played. Mom was proud of her history, cherished her friendships and loved her family.
