George Robert “Bob” Wittig was born March 10th, 1932, at Burstall, Saskatchewan, Canada. He passed peacefully away on October 8th, 2013 at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital in Medicine Hat, Alberta. The Funeral Service will be held today in VICTORY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2793 Southview Drive SE, at 200 p.m. with Pastor Joe Leavengood officiating. A Private Family Interment will be held in the Family Plot at Hillside Cemetery, prior to the service. It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Connie Jones, beloved wife of Dick Jones, announce her passing at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on October 9th, 2013 at the age of 79 years. Connie also leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Brenda (Frank) Watts; sons, Ken (Gail) Jones and Calvin (Gerri-Lynn) Jones; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her 2 brothers, Dwayne (Bonnie) Strum and Don (Patty) Sturm; as well as nieces and nephews. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who always enjoyed having her family around her. She will be forever in our hearts and missed by many. It is with great sadness that the family of Doreen Mildred (Seitz) Kurpjuweit announces her passing in Medicine Hat on Monday, October 7th, 2013 at the age of 79 years following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Doreen was born on May 8th, 1934 in Medicine Hat, the third child to Christian J. and Hanna (Enslen) Seitz. She grew up on the family farm in the Little Plume District and received her education, Grades 1 to 9, in the Goose Lake School. Doreen accepted Christ as her Savior at a young age at the Little Plume Church and lived for Him all her life. She married Reuben Kurpjuweit on October 11th, 1952. Doreen is survived by her loving husband, Reuben; their five children, Patty Drysdale, Arvid (Evonne) Kurpjuweit, Merle (Dorothy) Kurpjuweit, Cyndi (Barry) Chomick, and Sheldon (Kelly Jean) Kurpjuweit; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-one great- grandchildren; two brothers, Laverne (Yvonne) Seitz and Harvey (Lorna) Seitz; two sisters, Grace (Wayne) Buss and Ruth (Rodger) Heidinger; many nieces and nephews; as well as three aunts. Doreen was a wonderful homemaker who loved to sew and knit and was a great cook. When the kids got older, Doreen and Reuben began to travel visiting places like Arizona, Hawaii, Mexico, Alaska, Dominican Republic, Haiti, and the Bahamas. After the children were gone from home, she helped with cooking at Central Park Lodge and was head cook at Hillcrest Christian College where she provided not only delicious home-cooked meals, but also encouragement for home-sick students. Doreen and Reuben both volunteered at the Prairie Gleaners preparing food packages for underprivileged people around the world. Doreen was a devoted wife, wonderful mother, loving grandmother, delighted great-grandmother, loyal friend, and beloved sister who will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all. Doreen’s family wishes to thank the dedicated Home Care nurses and caregivers who helped look after Mom as well as the expertise and compassion of the Palliative Care Unit at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. We will see you soon, Mom. Marie Sirphina Baggs passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Friday, September 27, 2013, at the age of 79 years, beloved wife of Dennis Baggs of Medicine Hat. She also leaves to cherish her memory five children, Robert (Sherri) Marthaller, Randy Marthaller, Debra Marthaller, Darrell (Elaine) Marthaller and Donna Ogden; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Antonious Van Meelan. Marie is, was and always will be, our best friend and hero. She was a magnificent mother, wonderful lady who gave her all to everyone unconditionally and whose tender touch and selflessness created beauty and wonder from not. Her family would like to thank Dr.’s Best and Wong as well as the incredible nurses and staff on 4 west. With heavy hearts the family of Gloria Mary Hoskins-La Fosse, announce her passing in Medicine Hat on Sunday, October 6, 2013, at the age of 36 years. Gloria was born in Terrenceville, NL., and attended St. Joseph’s School through to grade 12. Her outgoing nature, laughter and comedic outbursts were some of her more recognizable character traits. Gloria’s devotion to her mother, siblings and especially her daughter was a true sign of the love she shared with her family. Her leisure time was spent dancing, listening to music and watching movies… oh how she loved her movies. For Gloria, the birth of her daughter, Katrina, and her accomplishments were some of the proudest moments in her life. Gloria’s memory will be forever treasured in the hearts of her daughter, Katrina La Fosse; mother, Diane Hoskins; sister, Matilda (George) and their children, Robert, Georgie, Bernitta; brother, Colin (Sheila) and their children, Melanie, C.J.; best friends, Ram Persaud and Michelle Lemire; her grandmother Clarke; numerous uncle’s, aunts and cousins as well as her cats, Flank & Mysteri and dogs, Tak & Tandi. Mr. Robert (Bob) Garyk, beloved husband of Gladys Garyk of Redcliff, passed away peacefully with his family by his side while at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday, October 7, 2013, at the age of 69 years. Along with his loving wife, Gladys, Bob leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Deidra Garyk and Erlene (Blake) Deobald; his very special grandson, Vann Deobald; two brothers, Mitch Garyk and Arnie (Angela) Guspodaryk as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Michalena (Pauline) Guspodaryk; one brother, Eugene Garyk and a sister-in-law, Audrey Garyk. Bob was born in Canora, Saskatchewan, on November 21, 1943, and raised in Roblin, Manitoba. On April 22, 1972, he married the love of his life, Gladys Hojnocki, in Roblin, Manitoba. Bob had a great work ethic and was employed the majority of his working career as a Heavy Equipment Operator. He was very skilled with his hands and there wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix once he set his mind to it! Bob was a very knowledgeable man and was often asked to share his advise. Whether mentoring his co-workers or offering sound financial advise, Bob always made time for those around him. He enjoyed a good conversation on the phone with close friends and treasured every moment spent with his family. Bob had many interests and hobbies, some of which included cars, airplanes, keeping up with current affairs, watching the stocks, camping and fishing as well as watching football and hockey. He appreciated each opportunity to be a part of something special and create lasting memories. Some of the more recent special memories were generated during trips to Cuba and Mexico with the family, his 40th anniversary party, attending air shows, visits to the farm and especially the birth of his only grandchild, Vann. Bob’s family wish to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and staff at the Carmel Hospice, St. Joseph’s Home. Their sincere, compassionate care and support during Bob’s stay will forever be remembered by the family. Vigil Prayers will be recited at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Friday, October 11, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. A time of visitation will proceed the Prayers between 6:30 p.m. and 6:55 p.m. Visitation will also be offered starting one hour prior to the Funeral Mass which will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, 238 – 2 Avenue N.E., Medicine Hat on Saturday, October 12, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. with the Very Reverend Father Long Vu celebrant.
