Nominations for this year’s Minister Seniors Service Awards are now open.
A total of 13 awards will be presented to individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations to those who display kindness, compassion and dedication to seniors throughout the province.
Rob Miyashiro, outgoing executive director of Lethbridge Senior Citizen Organization (LSCO), says these awards are more than just a plaque, they are a symbol of how community organizations help their senior population.
“It’s also the way we work together and support each other and we’ve seen that more in the last four or five years than ever before.”
A few Lethbridge organizations have won awards in the past, including the LCSO and Meals on Wheels.
This year, two special service awards will be featured.
The first is the Bridging Generations Award, which honours individuals, groups or organization who excel in uniting generations through shared experiences and backgrounds. The second award is the Community Philanthropy in Action Award which recognizes Albertans who mobilize community resources through philanthropic efforts to support seniors.
Miyashiro says it is important to recognize those in the community who are providing these resources to the senior population of our community.
“I believe it’s important especially for the senior population to know there are really services for seniors in Lethbridge. I think it’s also important (for them) to know how well we work together in order to get things done for seniors.”
Nominations will be open until April 30 and can be submitted by mail, email or online at https://www.seniors.alberta.ca/MSSA/
