Reservoirs below normal levels; rain expected today

Only one of three major southern Alberta reservoirs had levels within the normal range for this time of year as of Tuesday. But with a special weather statement in effect, that could change somewhat.
The Waterton Reservoir on Tuesday sat at 70 per cent of storage capacity, within its normal range of 69 to 85 per cent.
The Oldman Reservoir was at 69 per cent, below the normal range of 77 to 87 per cent while the St. Mary Reservoir had 59 per cent capacity, below the 60 to 80 per cent range normally expected.
While rainfall has been limited since July 1 in southern Alberta, parts could be getting some timely precipitation today.
A special weather statement was issued by Environment Canada on Wednesday afternoon which stated that heavy rainfall and strong winds are expected today.
Environment Canada is calling for a 100 per cent chance of between 50 and 75 millimetres in Lethbridge today. Other areas should also be getting moisture with less than 15 mm forecast for the Crowsnest Pass today, up to 20 mm in Pincher Creek, 40-50 mm in Cardston, less than 20 mm in Waterton and east at Taber, 35-45 mm.
The rain will only be a one-day event however, with sunny skies returning for the rest of the week and the Labour Day long weekend.
