Two days of seminars and field events are designed to help southern Albertans involved in the agriculture industry do their “Farming Smarter.”
Farming Smarter on Wednesday and Thursday will play host to its annual Field School which features discussions on a wide range of subjects and a trade show with 25 booths.
About 100 participants are expected for the two-day event that kicks off bright and early Wednesday morning.
Jamie Puchinger, assistant manager and event manager, said Monday the event is good for people involved in the ag industry from farm managers to sales people to build upon their knowledge base.
While most participants come from southern Alberta, others herald from different areas of the province as well as Saskatchewan.
On Wednesday, the school begins with a discussion by Nolan Kowalchuk called “Integrated Weed Management: Control the Controllables” at 9 a.m. followed by a discussion on ultra-early seeding systems and management intensity by Brian Beres. Tom Wolf will talk on the subject “Spick & Span Sprayers: Tips for Safe Cleanout” before a lunch brake.
Three more talks are scheduled for the afternoon, one on adding clarity to spray water by Ken Coles and Mike Gretzinger, a second by Rigas Karamanos on nurturing nitrogen and a third by Chris Hansen titled “Selective Spray Technology: Seeing is Believing.” A trade show, beer garden and axe throwing will be staged from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
Five more discussions are planned Thursday with three each in the morning and afternoon.
