Council votes on bike lane matter
By Lethbridge Herald on May 15, 2024.
City council on Tuesday voted 8-1 to approve recommendations from the Assets and Infrastructure Standing Policy Committee on bike lanes.
Those recommendations include one directing City administration to return to an SPC next summer with an update on usage of the downtown bike lanes then return again in September of 2026 with a report on their usage, as well as safety and modifications to address issues that could arise.
We know this has been a major topic of discussion in the community, so we wanted to do our due diligence in gathering more information from our residents,” said acting mayor Mark Campbell in a statement. Campbell is also chair of the Assets and Infrastructure SPC.
“By having yearly usage updates during the next two summers, Council will be able to use new data to best inform future decision making.”
Councillor Rajko Dodic cast the lone dissenting vote after discussion on the matter.
