Book sale attracts strong crowd

By Justin Seward - Lethbridge Herald on November 21, 2023.

Friends of the Lethbridge Public Library had boxes upon boxes set up at the library as a part of their pre-holiday $5 bag sale on Saturday and Sunday.
People could spend $5 and fill a standard bag with books, DVDs and CDs of their choice and in turn the funds would go into the library.
“All the books have been either deselected by the library or donated,” said Barbara Gibson, Friends of the Lethbridge Public Library booktique director.
“We’ve got fiction, non-fiction, we’ve got children’s books, we’ve got children’s fiction, children’s non-fiction, like I said DVDs, CDs, you name it, we’ve got . We’ve got a lot of romance, a lot of romance.”
There were 421 boxed of books for the sale over two levels.
“I was looking at when we first opened the doors, there was just a rush of people that came in and I was down in the theatre gallery where the adult books are stored, and we must (have) had easily 20 people at each table,” said Gibson.
“It was so full of patrons. That’s exciting.”
Gibson estimated there would be around 1,000 people that would go through the sale by the end of the weekend.
Her hope is to raise $3,000 from the event.
After the event is done, Friends will go through all the non-fiction and recycle any novels that are 2018 or older.
They will host another sale in the spring.
