Galt historians offering guided tour Monday

By Theodora MacLeod - Lethbridge Herald Local Journalism Initiative Reporter on October 28, 2023.

In a city with as much history as Lethbridge, there are bound to be a few good ghost stories.

Fittingly, the building that is now home to most of the city’s local history and artifacts began as the Galt Hospital, and what better a place to experience the supernatural than a 110-year-old structure that saw some of the 20th centuries worst medical epidemics—typhoid, diphtheria, polio, “Spanish” Influenza, tuberculosis, to name a few.

On Monday, guests are invited to join Galt Museum historians on a guided tour of the space that was once the hospital, complete with behind-the-scenes details and stories of years past and hauntings present.

While there is no guarantee of ghost sightings, the stories contained in the remaining walls give an intimate look into the realities of life in the early 20th century, with facts eerie enough to startle the modern population.

The tour will take place on Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
