Weekend Oktoberfest quenches thirst for fun

Plenty of beer, bratwursts and schnitzel were consumed during the annual Oktoberfest YQL on Saturday at Festival Square.
Jeff Saylor was enjoying the fest with friends and his girlfriend.
“Beers, the brats, the bros,” said Saylor, on why he attended.
“We love Oktoberfest. It’s a festival of family, of fun, German culture. Yeah it’s refreshing to get out of the house, enjoy the outdoors, enjoy some German beer, some German music.”
Savio Baptista was invited to the event my friends.
“But I’ve always been intrigued by Oktoberfest,” said Baptista.
“It sounds like a good time. There’s lots of beer, bratwurst, wiener schnitzel, like all the trappings that go with it (and) just sounds like a good time.”
Baptista said “I think anytime you have something like this, it just adds to the community.
“It’s just something different, and special, and makes you look forward to going downtown, and getting together with friends and it gives you something different from the usual,” he said.
“People have been having a good time from everything that we’ve heard and saw. The people coming in, they’ve been just celebrating with us, drinking a lot, eating a lot and just having a lot of fun. So, it’s been (a) really good time so far,” said co-organizer John Pogorzelski.
Pogorzelski said Oktoberfest has friendly atmosphere and “it’s like a communal beer garden that we have where you’re making friends all over the place.
“It’s really not hard to get people out,” he said.
“Thankfully in Germany, they’ve done a lot of pre marketing for us. So we just kind of piggy back off of what everybody knows as a fun beer festival.”
