YWCA to benefit from Exhibition fundraiser

By Steffanie Costigan - Lethbridge Herald Local Journalism Initiative Reporter on August 11, 2023.

The local Young Women’s Christian Association of Lethbridge and District (YWCA), for the first time, will be the beneficiary of the Lethbridge and Distict Exhibition’s 50/50 lottery fundraiser this year.
All money raised will go towards YWCA programs.
With each ticket purchased, community members have the potential not only to win big but to also help both YWCA Lethbridge & District and Lethbridge & District Exhibition to support community initiatives, YWCA external relations director, Catherine Champagne said on Thursday.
“Our organization relies on volunteers who rely on community support. An event like this really shows us that we need that support from the community.
“So we would be very grateful for anyone that can donate some time. We have shifts that go from anywhere from four to six hours or not really long, and we are looking for any kind of commitment that anyone can do,” said Champagne.
Any individuals interested in volunteering to help YWCA sell tickets at the Exhibition grounds can volunteer by going to https://secure.rotundasoftware.com/30/enrollment/YWCA_Lethbridge and register through the provided link above.
Champagne described the impact of having many volunteers and the possible outcome.
“The more people we have available to station at the booths, the more people we have on the ground selling 50/50, the better exposure we’re gonna get for the event, which ultimately brings more money back to the YWCA, but also brings more money back to the winner of the 50/50.”
In 1949 the YWCA had a permanent board of directors organized with goal of providing support in the community for housing, homelessness, poverty, domestic and sexual violence, health, fitness, volunteerism, youth empowerment, leadership, and a place to belong.
Champagne said the Exhibition’s annual 50/50 draw runs from spring until the end of Whoop-Up Days.
“We were selected as the partner, the charitable partner for it. So, we are excited to be part of that as the recipients of the 50/50.”
Tickets can be purchased online at https://lethbridge.smccheckout.com/tickets/main or can be purchased at the Exhibition.
“Purchasing the tickets, it goes to two pieces. It goes to Lethbridge and District Exhibition’s Foundation, which they’re trying to grow year over year to support other local non-profit agencies. And then, it also goes to support the YWCA.
So, it goes to support every program that we have here, helps to support the needs that we have, helps to develop those programs, and also expands our reach within southern Alberta. And they can also win money.”
