Farmers’ market growing well into new season
By Justin Seward - Lethbridge Herald on June 20, 2023.
There was no shortage of vendors or shoppers at the second Lethbridge Farmers’ Market of the year Saturday at Exhibition Park’s North Pavilion.
And it’s the first year for one of those vendors, Linda Wright, who promoted her Mini G Micros.
“We grow fresh local micro greens,” said Wright. We’re trying to basically make everyone healthy or entertain everybody, enlighten them on getting healthier, and eating greens is a good way to start.”
She was selling sunflower, rainbow radish and salad mix on top of sample sizes of pea shot, sandwich mix and broccoli.
“I think it’s a wonderful group of people,” said Wright. “There’s a lot of really nice, kind souls that travel through and it’s a really good place to trade and make connections.”
And there’s something for everybody.
“It’s a really nice mix of something that is going to appeal to a lot of people.”
Megan Seidle of Barn Door Bakery was impressed by the turnout.
“Yeah it’s been crazy,” said Seidle.
“From what I expected from every other Farmers Market that I have ever been to, like I’ve been to Calgary and like smaller towns, and I’ve never seen a turnout like Lethbridge,” said Seidle.
Seidle said the market offers a great variety of goods and there’s not problem of oversaturation.
“Like lots of different niches and everything and there’s a nice variety( and) a nice mix of everything,” she said.
Ellen Manson was in town from Saskatchewan to visit her daughter and her family, and was impressed with the spacious facility and the variety of vendors.
Darren Skatch comes every year, particularly for the fresh veggies and salsa, but he also returns because of the many different things to try and see.
“Variety is always changing,” he said. “It’s nice. You see something different every time.”
