Dueling pianists throw down the gauntlet at the Empress
By Lethbridge Herald on May 3, 2022.
A Canadian group specializing in interactive piano shows are preparing to hit the stage in Fort Macleod.
The Dueling Piano Kings are getting set to battle for the piano-playing crown on the Empress Theatre stage Friday, May 27 at 7:30 p.m. During this interactive show, the performers will try to out-play one another based on audience requests for songs. The Dueling Piano Kings have a history that spans more than six decades of music including classic rock, retro, country, rap, Top 40 and more.
The Calgary-based duo of Pat McGannon and Jesse Peters won “Entertainers of the Year” at the Canadian Event Industry Awards in March 2019 and were the inaugural winners of the 2017 Calgary Event Award for “Best Entertainer”.
McGannon has performed all over the world, including events for Bill Clinton, Tom Hanks and the late Glenn Frey of The Eagles. He has performed with Dueling Piano Kings at the Scotiabank Saddledome for several Calgary Flames and Calgary Roughnecks games, as well as at McMahon Stadium for Calgary Stampeders games.
R&B/hip-hop artist Jesse Peters joins McGannon as the second half of The Dueling Piano Kings.
“I’m an unapologetic fan of all things soulful,” says Peters in a news release. “Soul music is connected to the real stuff of life: struggle, identity, being free to be yourself.”
Peters has secured song placements on shows such as Global’s Family Law, Syfy’s Bitten, Showcase’s Continuum and CBC’s Arctic Air. He has been nominated twice for Western Canadian Music Awards, including Rap Recording of the Year in 2006 and R&B/Soul recording of the Year in 2009.
Tickets for The Dueling Piano Kings are $25 each, with more information available at MacleodEmpress.com, by calling 403-553-4404, or at the Box Office on Main Street.
