École St. Mary from the Holy Spirit Catholic School Division will have a new principal for the coming 2022/2023 school year.
Kiera Bouchard will be transitioning from her role as associate principal to principal of École St. Mary, a position she has held since 2018.
“I’m really excited about having the opportunity to continue working with this most amazing school and community,” said Bouchard.
She said she is excited about working alongside the current principal in transitioning into her new role.
Bouchard said that even though she held the position of assistant principal, she still had to go through an application process for the principal position.
“I did my masters a few years ago and still working on that leadership piece and going forward to working with the district and the district goals and that kind of stuff so it wasn’t a definite, it has been a process,” said Bouchard.
She said she is excited about continuing the work that they have done and find a way to move that forward.
Bouchard started her career with Holy Spirit Catholic School Division in 2009 as French immersion teacher at École St. Mary School before transitioning into associate principal in 2018 but her involvement with the school goes back even further.
“I attended the school when I was little myself so this is where I began my French journey,” said Bouchard.
She said the French immersion is one of four parts of the school and she believes it is important to have staff that are fluent in the language. The other three parts are faith, which she said is the biggest part, learning and inclusivity.
“I think having a French speaking principle and admin team is a very good goal,” said Bouchard.
She said French is a big part of their identity as a school.
“I’m excited to support people, support kids, to bring that passion, that energy forward and you know with the community and with all of the pieces,” said Bouchard.
