Are you looking to delve into Lethbridge and southern Alberta’s rich history and culture?
If so, the Lethbridge Historical Society is inviting you to join them in a look back in time.
The Lethbridge Historical Society is part of the Historical Society of Alberta’s membership drive that also includes Calgary, Edmonton, Peace Country Grande Prairie and Central Red Deer designed to engage and mobilize Albertans in learning about Alberta’s history.
The drive started last week and goes until April 1.
“Our membership year runs from April until March,” said Nicole Bosh, membership coordinator for the Lethbridge Historical Society. “We’re letting people know if they’re interested in the next few months there’s an opportunity to join us. Locally, we’re just trying to promote the importance of history. We’re excited to have members and learn about local history here in southern Alberta, but also to be part of a provincial organization.”
Bosh said the membership drive is geared for Albertans of all ages and backgrounds.Â
“We know there are a large variety of stories and interesting stories we want to be able to tell in our tourism program. So this is part of the drive, wanting to let people know about the provincial organization and here locally that they can be involved and learn about Lethbridge history.”
The Lethbridge Historical Society currently has about 60 members, said Bosh. “We would love to have as many people as possible.”
Those interested in renewing or purchasing a membership to receive full benefits can visit

Individual and family memberships can be purchased through PayPal or credit card via the online store or by contacting the Lethbridge Historical Society for other payment options such as e-transfer or mail-in a cheque to Box 974 Lethbridge, AB T1J 4A2.
As a member of the Historical Society of Alberta and its chapters, members may receive the Alberta History magazine, the society newsletters and be included in invitations to programs and events.Â
Members may also choose to volunteer or write and share their stories and research with fellow Albertans.
That includes keeping the history lessons going locally.
“We want to provide people the chance to learn about southern Alberta history,” said Bosh. “We have regular meetings and tours throughout the year. Some tours are open to the public and some are for members only coming this spring and summer.”
That includes back alley and monument tours.
“There’s such a variety of history and so many amazing stories and architecture,” said Bosh. “We take local history very seriously and it’s part of promoting local recognition of our history. We’re really trying to highlight the history that has such significance to Lethbridge.”
