Special screening for “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” planned at Empress Theatre
By Lethbridge Herald on October 2, 2021.
A special screening will be held for the new “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” movie Nov. 13 at the Empress Theatre in Fort Macleod.
The film will be shown there six days before the worldwide release. The film was primarily shot in Alberta and the Empress was featured in a scene.
The special screening is being used as a fundraiser for the theatre.
“The Empress is now over a century old,” says Margaret Ann Bianco, director of the theatre, in a press release. “The floors and seats need a major renovation to carry on the hosting we are famous for.”
The fundraiser is being done with the co-operation of Sony.
“They have been great to work with, and without their support, this wouldn’t have happened,” says Liisa Gillingham, acting CAO of Fort Macleod. “Sue Keenan, our previous CAO, proposed the idea, and the fundraising team along with Sony Canada, has put a lot of effort into making this come to fruition. Now it’s time to go. We are so excited.”
Fort Macleod’s main street will be blocked off and will have costume contests, photo booths, fire pits, “Ghostbusters” fan clubs, memorabilia and more on site.
All tickets for the event are $100 and will be available at the Empress starting MOnday at 11 through its online ticket sales portal, macleodempress.com
