GoFundMe set to help family of local youth in hospital

By medicinehatnews on September 1, 2021.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help a local youth dealing with necrotizing fasciitis.
A total of  $15,000 has been raised for 13-year-old Grant Vanvelthuizen of Lethbridge, who had to have his leg amputated due to necrotizing fasciitis last week.
Vanvelthuizen suffers from neutropenia, a suppressed immune system, causing him to be airlifted to Calgary to have emergency surgery to save his life.
He had to have his hip, psoas muscle and part of his bowel removed and will remain in Calgary for recovery and rehabilitation.
To assist in his recovery, one of Vanvelthuizen’s 14 siblings has started a fundraiser to help his family with the costs of travel, house modifications and medical equipment with support pouring in.
