The Lethbridge viaduct tops a list of engineering and geoscience wonders people need to see this summer in Alberta.
This list was created by the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta.
APEGA says “the list is a mixture of beauty and ingenuity, offering jaw-dropping attractions in every corner of the province.”
It cites the viaduct/high level bridge, which stands 96 metres above the Oldman River as No. 1.
The list also includes lesser known attractions like the Brazeau Dam, one of the largest in the province along with other spectacular feats that defied the odds and gravity.
“The Icefields Parkway is a great example of brains meeting beauty. While it’s been named one of the most stunning drives in the world, it wouldn’t have been made possible without Alberta engineers who persevered through incredibly difficult terrain,” said APEGA Registrar and CEO Jay Nagendran in a press release.
He added that “it was difficult narrowing the list to just 10 attractions given the long history of engineering and geoscience in the province. But we hope it inspires tourists to explore our province and experience the ‘how of wow’ behind these attractions.”
The list includes:
1. Lethbridge Viaduct / High Level Bridge – Lethbridge
â – ‹ Experience a nerve-wracking train’s eye view of the bridge crossing
2. Leduc #1 / Canadian Energy Museum- Leduc County
â – ‹ Learn about the lucky strike that changed everything for Alberta
3. Glacier Skywalk – Jasper
â – ‹ A knee-knocking feat of engineering with a spectacular view of the Columbia Icefield
4. Walterdale Bridge – Edmonton
â – ‹ An iconic entrance to Alberta’s capital city with spectacular engineering in every feature
5. Big Rock/Erratic – Okotoks
â – ‹ Alberta’s strange and wonderful geology left an ancient gift behind
6. Icefields Parkway – Jasper/Banff
â – ‹ A spectacular drive that literally moved mountains in order to come to life
7. The Bow Tower – Calgary
