Both the Main Branch and the Crossings Branch of the Lethbridge Public Library will reopen to the public on Friday.
Although services will still be somewhat reduced, nonetheless, Michelle Dyke, senior manager of public services for the library, says it is still an exciting milestone after a difficult year.
“It is exciting,” she confirms.”Absolutely. We know the public has been missing us, and we have been missing them. So to be able to have the doors open and people coming in using the library the way it was meant to be used is exciting for everyone.”
Dyke says the library is taking a cautious approach to re-opening.
“We are going to be open for browsing,” she explains. “Some people can now come into the library, browse the stacks, and check them out. We will still continue our curbside service (also). So if you don’t want to come into the library, you can call ahead and we will arrange for your books to be put out at the table for you. We will be doing some outdoor programming. We won’t be doing any indoor programming until the fall.”
The library will also offer enhanced computer services, exam invigilation for those who need it, and Internet on the Go printing services.
But there will only be limited seating available for those who just want to pass some time at the library with physical distancing continuing to be encouraged.
“We are going to have some seating, and people will be welcome to stay if they want to,” Dyke confirms. “But it won’t be 100 per cent like it used to be before all the stuff happened with COVID.”
