One of two men arrested and charged with drug-related offences following a traffic stop in the city last month, has been released from custody.
Dylan Ivan Sokol, 25, was granted bail Thursday following a brief hearing in Lethbridge provincial court. The accused must pay a $1,000 deposit and reside at his grandmother’s home in Coaldale. He was also ordered to report to the Lethbridge Police Service by phone once a week, not possess any weapons, obey a curfew from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. every day, and not have any contact with Shaun Hlavach, 35, who was also arrrested and charged during the traffic stop April 20 in the 2200 block of 9 Avenue North.
During a search of the vehicle, police reportedly found 160 grams of methamphetamine, 132 grams of fentanyl, four grams of cocaine, various prescription pills, drug paraphernalia and about $4,300.
Sokol, who appeared in court by CCTV from the Lethbridge Correctional Centre, is charged with two counts of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, one count of possession of the proceeds of crime under $5,000, and three counts of breaching an undertaking. He is scheduled to return to court on the matter June 10 to allow defence time to review a significant amount of disclosure only recently received from the Crown’s office.
Hlavach, who is also remanded at the correctional centre but wasn’t required to attend court during his hearing Thursday, is charged with two counts of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, one count each of drug possession, possession of the proceeds of crime under $5,000, and breach of a release order stemming from an earlier drug-related arrest. He returns to court May 13 on those charges and other charges unrelated to the traffic stop.
