Two men charged charged last summer in relation to dial-a-dope drug trafficking in the city are considering options that could avoid a trial.
During a recent hearing in Lethbridge provincial court, an agent for the men’s lawyers said the Crown had sent defence an offer to resolve the matter. The agent suggested, however, that defence needs more time to consider the offer, and the case was adjourned to March 18 to allow time to continue discussions with the Crown.
During the summer officers with the priority crimes unit began a short-term investigation into specific trafficking activity, and arrested two men following a targeted traffic stop on Aug. 25.
During a search of the vehicle police seized $7,600 in cash, as well as methamphetamine and cocaine worth more than $5,100.
Police seized the vehicle and later searched a local hotel where they found $500 in cash, considered the proceeds of crime.
Ajit Singh Kahlon, 24, of Edmonton, and 18-year-old Sumrath Singh Bindra of Leduc, were each charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of the proceeds of crime over $5,000.
They were released from custody by a justice of the peace shortly after their arrest, and they remain free on bail conditions pending the resolution of their charges.
