26-year-old Lethbridge man charged with four others in relation to a serious assault on the westside in September, has received a jail sentence on unrelated matters.
Jessie Dean Davidson was sentenced Wednesday in Lethbridge provincial court to 90 days in jail —  minus some credit for pre-trial custody — after pleading guilty to single counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000.
Court was told a motor vehicle had been stolen from a residence last April, but police found it only a few minutes later and arrested the two occupants after a brief foot chase. Davidson, who was one of the occupants, claimed he wasn’t involved in the theft but he knew the vehicle had been stolen.
Barely a week later a resident saw two people emptying a parked vehicle of its contents. The witness was suspicious and photographed Davidson as he walked away from the car, which had been stolen. Defence explained Davidson has only been in trouble with the law the last few years and “lost his way” after he broke up with his wife.
Davidson still faces charges of aggravated assault, disguised with intent and failure to comply with a release order stemming from an assault Sept. 25, 2020 at a trailer park in the 2700 block of Westside Drive. When police arrived at the residence they found a 40-year-old man suffering from life-threatening injuries. Nolan Shade, Lucas Lycar, Hunter Nolte and Cory Amyotte also face charges in relation to the incident. Davidson returns to court on his charges Feb. 17.
