MONTREAL — A second inmate has been killed in less than one month following an altercation inside a maximum-security prison near Quebec City.
Quebec provincial police say they are investigating the death of a 25-year-old inmate who died after an attack on Tuesday at Donnacona Institution. Correctional Service Canada has identified the deceased as Amine Derradji, who was declared dead in hospital.
His death comes a little over three weeks after Tyreek Angus, 26, was killed after an altercation with another inmate inside the prison. He had been serving a sentence of more than four years since July 2025.
Authorities said in a release on Wednesday that Derradji had been serving a sentence of more than six years and seven months since May 2025 and died from injuries during an altercation with a fellow inmate.
Provincial police said earlier that two men in their 20s were attacked by fellow inmates on Tuesday around 7:30 p.m., with both men transported to hospital. Béatrice Dorsainville, a provincial police spokesperson, said one death was confirmed in hospital while the second victim’s injuries were not life threatening.
The provincial police’s criminal investigations division is handling Derradji’s killing. Correctional Service Canada said it is reviewing what happened and working with police and coroner’s office.
