By Canadian Press on September 4, 2025.

WINNIPEG — RCMP say a man killed his sister and wounded several others Thursday in a stabbing rampage on a Manitoba First Nation. He then fled and was killed in a highway crash with a Mountie who was responding to the attack at Hollow Water First Nation.

Here’s a timeline provided by police:

3:44 a.m. — RCMP receive a report of an assault on Hollow Water First Nation northeast of Winnipeg that happened 30 minutes earlier.

5:53 a.m. — Mounties receive a second call about a possible stabbing in the community.

Officers from multiple detachments respond. Police find several victims with stab wounds in a home and are alerted to another home where they locate more victims.

6:53 a.m. — Tyrone Simard, 26, driving a stolen vehicle, crashes with an RCMP cruiser responding to the attack. Simard dies at the crash site, about 52 kilometres south of the First Nation, and the officer is taken to hospital with critical injuries. RCMP say she’s expected to make a full recovery.

2:50 p.m. — RCMP announce the one victim who died in the attack is Simard’s 18-year-old sister. They say seven wounded are in hospital.
