ISKUT — Three miners who were trapped underground in a remote northern British Columbia mine have been rescued.
Red Chris mine operator Newmont Corp. says the three men were safely bought to the surface at about 10:40 p.m. Thursday.
It says Kevin Coumbs, Darien Maduke and Jesse Chubaty are in good health and spirits after being trapped underground by two rockfalls on Tuesday.
Newmont says in a statement that the men, who are contractors for B.C.-based Hy-Tech Drilling, had consistent access to food, water, and air in a refuge chamber.
It says the workers are being supported by medical and wellness teams and their families have been notified.
Newmont says it was a “carefully planned and meticulously executed rescue.”
