Shots fired at Indian star Kapil Sharma’s Surrey, B.C., restaurant

By Canadian Press on July 10, 2025.

Police in British Columbia are investigating after shots were fired at a restaurant linked to a prominent Indian comedian, with apparent footage of the overnight incident widely shared on social media.

Kap’s Cafe is linked to comic and television host Kapil Sharma, who posted a video of the newly opened establishment on Instagram this week.

Surrey police say they were called to a business on the 8400 block of 120 Street at about 1:50 a.m. Thursday.

Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton says employees of Kap’s Cafe were still in the restaurant when the shots were fired, but no one was injured.

A video circulating on social media platform X shows someone firing a handgun repeatedly at the restaurant, with the footage filmed from inside the same vehicle as the shooter.

Houghton says police forensic experts are looking at the video’s authenticity and it appears to be connected to the shooting.

He says there is “conflicting information” online about the possible motives behind the shooting, and police cannot jump to conclusions based on social-media chatter.

Police are encouraging anyone with information on the shooting to come forward, and investigators are working to identity the suspect’s vehicle in the case.
