Curtis Oscar Noble hopes that having grown up here, having an understanding of the community and being a father will make him a valuable asset to the Medicine Hat Public School Board.

Noble received his emergency services technology diploma and EMT, primary care paramedic. He has worked with the Medicine Hat Fire Department as a qualified officer for more than 12 years and has three daughters that all attend Roy Wilson.

He spends time volunteering and is the current president of the Alberta Firefighters Association. Noble also coached football at his alma mater, McCoy, for a number of years.

“I think it’s important to have a parent’s perspective on the board,” said Noble. “I’m not running against anything that the board has done, I think they’ve done a fantastic job but … I think that’s an important perspective, to have the voice of somebody who knows the day-to-day goings on of what families are dealing with in the education system.”

Noble takes pride in his ability to be non-partisan in his decision making. He says it’s important to look at every angle and make informed decisions.

He also hopes to continue advocating for the government to get rid of the draft curriculum.

“It’s unfortunate that they would ram something through in a year after the previous draft curriculum was worked on for close to six or seven years,” said Noble. “All the consultation processes that they went through for that and now they didn’t even sit down and have meaningful consultation with the people that actually teach it. That’s unfortunate.”

Noble will work hard to understand the position.

“I’m notoriously passionate about the things that I set my mind to,” Noble said. “This is extraordinarily important to me … the most important role I have in my life is a father to my children, and one of the biggest parts of their lives is their education. So ensuring that my girls and all students in the city have that public education. A quality public education system builds society’s, it fuels innovation and it fuels the economy.”
