About 900 Hatters took advantage of the first day of early voting in the municipal election on Saturday, according to local returning officers.

That is more than half the total advance votes cast in the 2017 municipal election with five days of early voting to go.

That year, total turnout was estimated to be about 35 per cent.

Advance polls continue this week at two locations, the Hockey Hounds arena social room and the Medicine Hat Stampede grandstand banquet room.

Eligible voters can cast ballots between 2 and 8 p.m. though Friday, Oct. 15, and then from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16 at those locations.

General voting takes place on Monday, Oct. 18 at 18 polling stations located through out the city.

The Town of Redcliff also scheduled advance polls on Tuesday and Thursday (from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) this week at the Redcliff Public Library.

Early voting in Cypress County took place on Oct. 2.
