newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com A large vegetable processing company is closing its facility in Lethbridge, taking 70 jobs with it. Nortera, a frozen and canned vegetable processor, will shut down its facility in June as part of a consolidation of the company’s Canadian facilities. There are 13 Nortera plants across Canada and the U.S., processing and marketing more than 400,000 tonnes of vegetables each year. Officials say the changes are designed to help the company stay competitive in a market “increasingly challenged by international imports.” “Closing a facility is never an easy decision, especially given the dedication of our Lethbridge team” said CEO Hugo Boisvert. “Current market pressures have made it essential for us to consolidate our operations. By optimizing our manufacturing footprint, we are securing the future and the competitiveness of Nortera.” Production volumes and equipment will be transitioned from the Lethbridge plant to several of the company’s other facilities over the coming months. Nortera will provide comprehensive support to assist the 70 employees affected by the transition. 9
