newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com Medicine Hat Tigers fans came together and raised more than $4,700 for this year’s annual rooftop campout in support of Muscular Dystrophy Canada during the final home game against the Red Deer Rebels. Each year firefighters brave the outdoor elements and camp out on the roof of Station No. 2 to support Muscular Dystrophy Canada through the “Fill the Boot” or “Rooftop Campout” campaign, which has become the largest national fundraiser for the charity that supports people affected by the neuromuscular disorder. Before even setting foot on the roof, firefighters will head into the campout weekend from April 10-12 already ahead by $4,780. Last year firefighters raised more than $13,300 to support Muscular Dystrophy Canada while spending an entire weekend on the roof of the station. Funds raised support people living with Muscular Dystrophy, and the event is meant to raise awareness of the 160 different types of the disease that affects more than 50,000 Canadians. Since Medicine Hat Fire Services began supporting the annual campout in 1977, approximately $400,000 has been raised locally. 8
