In 2025 Medicine Hat Fire and Emergency Services identified the city’s top five collision-prone intersections and provided motorists with simple tips to stay safe on the roadways.

Of the five top collision intersections, four connect to the Trans-Canada Highway – 13th Avenue SE, College Avenue, 16th Street SW and Dunmore Road.

The intersection at 13th Avenue SE and Strachan Road is also included in the top five.

“Small actions can make a big difference and keep our roads safe for everyone,” reads a social media post from Wednesday.

Firefighters are reminding motorists to slow down and approach intersections with caution and pay attention to changing lights and turning vehicles.

“Stay alert and avoid distractions behind the wheel.”

Last year firefighters responded to 271 motor vehicle collisions within city limits.

Unaffiliated door-to-door fire equip. sales

The Medicine Hat Fire and Emergency Services has released a second public service announcement regarding a private company selling fire protective systems in Medicine Hat.

“While we respect the work of businesses, we want to clarify that this company is not affiliated with Medicine Hat Fire and Emergency Service,” reads the public notice.

Firefighters say to call them and ask questions if someone is trying to sell you fire protection equipment and you’re unsure about the claims.

In Medicine Hat the fire department offers free home safety inspections for residents, typically including walking through an escape plan, checking smoke alarms, as well as general safety tips.

If you have had a salesperson at your door and you are unsure about their claims, firefighters encourage you to reach out by email at fireprevention@medicinehat.ca.
